Judging by the photo the light is pretty close in color to incandescent bulbs correct? If so I've got a couple of cars to update.

@Lou1985, The bulbs are Warm White in color which means they are a more yellow color like incandescents. Cold White is the blueish white. If shopping around, you will note bulbs colors are rated in K(elvin) temperature:

That dealer is familiar and he stocks just about everything bulb related.  Did you just plug the LED bulbs in and use them that way or did you rectify the current to them?  LED's are DC devices but I've used them on AC for years on outside 12 V landscape lighting ( 6 hours a night) with no ill effects and they are still all burning

As far as I know screw in type are not offered yet. I only run them at 18 volt so I’ll have to check on lower voltage for conventional operation. They are a drop in replacement. No mods needed at all. When you look at the car from the side you will see each LED same as you see the incondecent bulb. These LEDs are not warm like the ones offered by GRJ which are superior but they do offer a quick solution for low amperage and heat. 

So you are saying I can simply replace my incandescent bulbs in my MTH  passenger cars with these? Do you know the price per bulb?

The light disperses in the car really well. I may look at these for my cabooses.

FWIW, I bought some warm white LED bulbs that were not warm enough for my taste. So I painted the LED yellow /white mixture and it looks much more of what I wanted. The LEDs I'm referring to were not an LED inside of a glass bulb. I painted right on the diode. 

I adjust the color all the time with Tamiya X-26.

Right there on the little white label in the photo.

Too bad, it looks like MTH uses a christmas light push in type bulb. Anyway here is how to get the cars apart, which has been answered in the past.  I may have a different solution to try, 18v leds resistor is pre wired 9 bucks for 20 on ebay they are warm white. Perhaps not flicker free, no caps. I am running LC at 18 v DC.

Recently, I was looking for a LED bulb to replace the MTH push-in type and another form member found a replacement but they were about $6 per bulb.

The ones at Town & Country are nowhere near the $6 per bulb price quoted. I've used lots of them, and really like the way they decrease the amperage. You don't need to rectify the current.

The  cool white makes the cars look like they have fluorescent lighting inside, the warm white more incandescent.

As long as they are the bayonet type the answer is yes. Early MTH cars had 4 bulbs in each car so the LED replacement will be a great heat and amp solution. I got mine at York after talking to the owner of Town and Country. He stated that these were new and not the same as the LED style already offered for signals etc. I can’t remember what I paid for the box. Give them a call, very helpful. 

I don't understand how these can work well when they only have a 120 degree spread.  I would think that you would want an omnidirectional bulb.

Even though they are classified as warm white I would appreciate a Kelvin spec.  I have gotten "warm white" bulbs that are too blue.

I've used the older Town and Country LED bulbs in some Williams and Lionel passenger cars with frosted windows or silhouettes.  I put some of the metal duct tape for heat duct applications on the ceiling of the cars to help spread the light more evenly. 

Ok, here’s a comparison of the new LED drop in vs the original Lionel bulb. The Atlantic coast line has the new LED and the NYC (right) has the original bulb. The LED are not warm as the original. All you gain with the LED is very low amperage and no heat. 

Again the Tamiya X-26 does a great job of warmer the color of the LED bulbs
