Hi guys,

A while back I sent out a want ad for this lionel sound car.A user tipped me off to the fact these were never produced, cancelled due to lack of pre-orders.

This simply wouldn't do, I've got a train that needs one so I'm going with the next best thing. Having one custom made. After looking at my options I decided to go with a remake of the classic Lionel generator car instead of a true sound car. Mainly due to not wanting sound, not to mention it's less than half the cost.

Reading the instructions of the generator car it says while the simulated fan will work with the car in motion it's not recommended. Does anybody know why it wasn't recommended? What effect will it have on the car long term if this done and is there anyway to get the fan spinning with the doors closed? Anyway that's temporary that is, or a way that enables me to manually switch the effect on and off without messing with the doors?

Thanks for the guidance!

In case anybody is wondering here's the train:

It's inspired by a blend of elements from the USAF ALCOP (Alaska motive power/equipment), The Minuteman Mobility Test Train (I think you guys get what was pulled from that lol) and the Peacekeeper Rail Garrison (The train consist and types of rolling stock).

Once I have the generator car I'm planing on calling the train complete. The generator car will serve as "launch control" for the missiles; similarly to how the Peacekeeper Rail Garrison had a car sandwiched between the missile firing cars for the launch officers and crew.

When the generator car is in motion, the vibration from the car running pretty much cancels out the fan or light shield from spinning. If it is a newer generation generator car. just by-pass the micro switch next to the door to get operation all the time.

Thanks for the info! The car is currently being repainted and I'll update when it gets here. Despite my love for N scale I'm starting to get more and more enticed by traditional O scale, it's the first time in a long time I've had worry free fun while modeling. I'm already eyeing more items

Pretty cool!  Perhaps you need to get an Atlas troop kitchen car and convert it to a Guard car.
Here is a picture (my photo from 2016) of Strategic Air Command Guard Car G-50, at the Feather River Railroad museum in Portola, CA. It was made from Pullman kitchen car 8750, originally built 1943.

I've been considering adding a guard car. Actually this generator car thats being done up now is a closer match to a Peacekeeper Rail Garrison guard car than a Launch control car. Unfortunately I realized that if I do too many support cars I'll be firing missiles at the locomotive so I had to cut back.

I've encountered G-50 among my research, it's an interesting car, some day I want to do the full train consist. Eventually....

Bit of an update, CJB custom painting just finished the repaint. So I'll hopefully have it by Wednesday.

Got another question. Is there any way to extend the power lines that run to the spot light on the new version of this car without cutting the factory ones? From pictures it looks like a small headphone cord, can I just use one of those?
