I found the scheme as well, but it was a GP7. Some of these geeps were used in passenger service.

I did locate one pic but can't really tell if it's grey or faded or dirty black.

6039 does look gray and it's a classic paint scheme.

I found this photo that I took in 1964 in Toledo, OH, from the window of B&O's Capitol-Detroit.

Don't remember if it was black or gray, though.

That may be a catalog error. On the Notch 6 podcast Mike Reagan stated that the NYC GP9 was to have the "cigar band logo".

I don't know if the grey lighting stripe is considered a "cigar band"

In the David Sweetland book "New York Central Lightning Stripes", on page 73, 2 NYC GP-7s are shown in color departing Cincinnati Union Terminal with the CINCINNATI MERCURY. One GP-7 is "in the gray passenger scheme and one in black..." Both units are in lightening stripes.

There were of course exceptions, but most NYC EMD E units and Alco PAs were grey. Alco FAs were (mostly) black. I see EMD Fs  in black and in grey, as well as GP-7/9 in black or grey as well. My NYC books show grey GP-7/9 in grey hauling freight as well as passenger consists. I suppose it varied on motive power needs , re-gearing service/maintenance/upgrades, and of course when they were in service.

Based on Rick O's post of the Podcast with Mike Reagan, does anymore have additional information for the final scheme?

I would definitely buy the grey lightning stripe, but have little interest in the cigar band which Atlas O is already doing.
