Lionel SOS board components ID

The Sound of Steam (especially the version in your photo) is so old, Lionel service folks may not have the info you're seeking.  I'm not sure that you wouldn't be better off re-posting this in the Electrical sub-forum.

Follow this link.  It'll take you into the middle of a nice thread on fixing SOS, with a schematic and what appears to be a substitution list.  But, without knowing precisely which Lionel product (via its product number) your board came out of this may not match what you have:

The oddball GE5909 tested good but I discovered that a 2N4401-bp would work as a replacement if need be. The problem was the 470Uf cap was out of spec and a 2N3645 transistor was bad. Replaced both and it works fine now. It’ll go back to a customer tomorrow.

A good rule of thumb for old boards is to suspect the electrolytic caps first.  Since that SOS board is probably 40 years old, replacing the caps is a good plan if you're trying to revive it.

I have SOS board number two for a another customer and this is a bigger mystery than the first one. Does anybody have any knowledge of the nomenclature Lionel used on these transistors. F401/9012, f401/9013,(to-92) ……. Fcs9014d,fcs9014b, and CCO0141350 . The last three look like smaller to-105 packages. None of the major suppliers have any knowledge of these markings. I can remove the components and test them and find a substitute except when you find a bad one, game over no way of determining what will cross. If any body can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

CCO0141350 - no useful info found on this one

I looked at the package and these aren’t comparable , there is a old post I found after I posted  mine that listed most of what I need. But thank you trying to help me out with this nightmare.

Once you determine if the PNP or NPN, you can likely substitute a wide variety of parts, I can't imagine the circuit is that critical.

Board number two has been repaired, after testing all of the transistors I discovered two were bad and one 470uf cap was bad but replaced all three while I was at it. Works like it should and another happy customer. Thanks everybody for your help.

If I ever get an SOS board to fix, I know who to call, you're the expert now!

I’ve become better at understanding and troubleshooting electronics by listening to the real electronics experts on OGR like yourself.
