As did my card by Charles Ro for the Daylight Cab Forward.  (My bank account is now thanking me in SPADES for not ordering a Big Boy.  I have no regrets whatsoever.)

Sounds like the mother lode has arrived at all the big train shops.

Anyone care to put a dollar-sign on the transactions buzzing along the Mastercard and Visa phone lines today...  Just by train dealers and LHS's???    These folks have gotta be smiling ear-to-ear when they look at today's receipts.     But not after what will be an extremely hectic and tiring day, for sure.

On the other hand, I completely understand why they're turning this stuff around with no time for any grass to grow under their feet.  Now that I think about, what else of any significance has shipped this year prior to November?  Perhaps I'm drawing a blank, but nothing comes to mind at the moment.  Lionel pretty much dumped everything into November/December.  Amazing.  Hope everyone budgeted their funds accordingly, 'cause it's time to pay the piper now.

Chris, i just received a pending credit card charge from Ro around 10am this morning.  I did not get the official email with tracking number......however it has been confirmed that the shipment has arrived there as well as Nicholas Smith Train and Nassau Hobbies.

in addition it looks like there are extras to be had if anyone decides to take the plunge today!

Merry Christmas,

Pete

I can hear it now... when calling dealers today, there's probably a new message on the automatic answering system... "IF YOU'RE CALLING TO INQUIRE ABOUT LIONEL'S BIG BOY, WE HAVE RECEIVED THEM AND ARE TRYING TO PROCESS AS MANY PRE-ORDERS TODAY AS WE CAN.  IF YOU'D LIKE TO PURCHASE AN EXTRA ONE, PLEASE STAY ON THE LINE AND A FRIENDLY CUSTOMER ASSOCIATE WILL BE WITH YOU SOON.  OTHERWISE, LEAVE US THE $#%& ALONE SO WE CAN SHIP YOUR ORDER."

"So they did not ship Monday? They are shipping Tuesday?"

I spoke with them this morning and they are shipping out today what comes in today. The Big Boys had not arrived yet, but they were expecting them anytime. Based upon what members have reported about their CC being charged today, it looks like they are on the way.

"Oct 29, 3013."  No wonder your credit card never got a "ping." you have just preordered The Super Big Boy, Lionels  1000 th anniversary super Legacy reissue........only kidding, Bigdodgetrain......couldn't resist.  I am sure you will get notification tomorrow.  Ro is double boxing all his Big Boys and that takes time.

Roger,

What are you waiting on?  Let's see that bad boy!

My dealer isn't going to have them until tomorrow sometime.  I can wait, been patiently waiting on this moment for over a year!  I remember when it was just 'rumor'!

Thanks David, when I talked to Ro and company, they advised they had to double box the Big Boy inorder that it arrived safe and sound. I have no problem with that idea. You're probably correct in assessing the delivery date......just glad its coming.

At 4 hours away, I would go get it myself.  But since I'm in AZ, and the dealer I bought it from is in NY, I have to wait for UPS, which means mine isn't here until the 30th.

Just got off the phone with Charles Ro ( 11AM). The guy I talked to, not Ro, advised a truck just pulled up.   He put me on hold and confirmed that the Big Boys just arrived but couldnt confirm if they would be shipped out today.

Yep, sounds like another case "Big Boy Flu".  There an epidemic that is sweeping the country from coast-to-coast.  Best advice is stay home for 4-5 days after you get your delivery.  Lube your unit as per instructions.  Run frequently, not you, just your trains. Drink plenty of liquids and re-fill the smoke unit often.  Sleep is optional.  You can then return to normal activities.

Just got my Christmas present from Charlie Ro......while its not the actual Big Boy......its almost as good, one UPS Tracking Number!

Getting worried for awhile seeing everyone else getting tracking numbers and Big Boys....

thought Santa put me on the Bad Boy list instead of the Big Boy list!

Merry  Christmas  everyone-Pete

Good point!    I wonder if anyone can report what the BB draws?

No load, level track, all smoke on, anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5A on my meter.  More than any other engine I've tested!

Merry Christmas Everyone!!!

It really makes me happy to see all the people getting there Big Boys and even those who are at least getting tracking numbers. UPS did a great job and I think it was a great idea to double box these. From now on when ever i have an expensive engine coming I'm going to request double box.

woohee!    That might make even double heading a problem.  Add smoke, add a grade and some rolling stock (45 PFEs in my case) and that TIU is history!

My Big Boy ran excellent but noticed on the tender the 2 rear red marker lights were not lit. as soon as I get a chance I'm going to take the tender apart to see if its a loose or pinched wire hopefully that's all it is.

Everyone carefully go over the entire engine to make sure everything is functioning properly. I'm sure mine is an easy fix just wanted to share this with you guys.

Hope everyone had a wonderful safe Christmas!!

Did you turn them off?  Push and hold Aux2. When the extended lighting menu comes up, look for the lamp icons with a T in it. Push it and see what happens. It has at even though not depicted on this image. It could also be right on the main screen. Not having my BB I'm not sure what the keypad options are.

Thanks Marty, I didn't know about that and will definitely try that when I get home. I did try the light button that I think was on the speed button page but that was just the engine marker lights. Are the marker lights for both tender and engine independent? if so then there's a pretty good chance that it is just the Aux 2 button that will do the trick.

Thanks Marty!! Will definitely try it when I get home and will report back. I definitely didn't go into that menu if the BB has it so it just might have been shut off at factory.

Larry,

We tried to get you on the band wagon during the preorder!  You'll love it and with all those PFE Reefers you have, it'll be a sight to behold!

I'm waiting on mine to arrive also.

I saw somebody write this:  "The Vision Line Challenger was a home run, the VL Big Boy is a grand slam"

I can't agree more.  Welcome to the owner's club of Lionel's epic locomotive.

Matt,

Similar problem with my 4014, only the center red LED is not functioning properly.  Not a happy camper at all.

It was working fine for the first two days, but today I noticed it did not illuminate...in fact it is very dim and flickers as my locomotive moves across the layout.  I suspect there is a loose wire or something, fortunately I am close to my LHS, so heading there Monday to have the technician look at and hopefully resolve.

Let me know what you find if you disassemble the shell, I'd surmise our issues are similar in terms or the culprit.

Best,

Michael

The first thing I did was go into that Aux 2 menu and hit the button for the tender markers and it's now working great..thanks a bunch as I didn't even know about that lighting menu and it's not even in the manual which is strange. I checked everything else and everything is working great!! Thanks again!!!..made my day :-)

I spoke to soon! The rear marker lights went out again and now they are not coming back on. Not sure if it's software related or hardware but before i take apart the tender Mayne I'll call lionel first. Not a big issue but no matter what I don't want to send the whole engine in just for that..don't want to risk getting damaged during shipping. Anyone have any suggestions?

Well it looks like I finally will be able to attend this party, better late than never.  Big Boy will arrive today after a teaser last Monday when I received notification my credit card was charged. Would have liked it for Christmas Day but right now I will be happy just to have it in hand without any issues.

Hey Matt any update with The rear marker lights?

-Pete

No luck with my rear marker lights. I took apart the tender and didn't notice any lose wires or anything unusual. I also removed and reconnected some of the wire harnesses to see if it was just a lose connection but no luck. I only saw the lights come on a few times that only lasted just only minutes then they went dark. I've also re loaded the memory module on cab 2 and also put engine on separate length of track and only had power and legacy connected by itself to rule out other engines dcs etc causing the problem.

I tried to call lionel this am at 8:30 eastern time but said they were closed not sure if they are closed this week?

I guess the tender will have to be sent to lionel for repair. Does anyone know if I can just send tender as I definitely don't want to send engine to ris damage?
Marty, sorry didn't take pictures..lol I wanted to get in and get out without causing more damage. I really hate having to take something apart that you just spent so much money on...especially when it didn't work from out of the box. I wish they sold these engines at the Price Club where we could just take them back and exchange for another one :-) how awesome would that be.
Just got off the phone with Lionel and they suggested to re program the engine which I totally forgot to try that even though I'm not so confident that's going to resolve my issue but it's a simple quick thing to try. I really hope re programming the engine solves my lighting issue.

I will test it tonight or tomorrow when I get home.

Yes Matt, thats what I am told.......I am still unsure if I will sell my JLC 4014.  Just feel if I sell it now I would not be getting the price I would like and giving it away.  Besides to run them together would be awesome!

Hopefully, Lionel's idea to reprogram the engine will do the trick.  It sounds like a good idea.  Let us know after you try it!

Good Luck with it,

Pete

Thanks for mentioning the $10.00 rebate form.  Helps take a little bit of the edge off of my $93.00 UPS 2nd Day (Blue Label) Delivery shipping fee.  Although I can understand that no one wants to have their employees standing in line at the Post Office trying to mail packages, it would be nice if UPS shipments to Alaska weren't all Blue Label.  The United States Post Office's Priority Mail delivers just as fast for half the price and for large shipments, they will even come to your place of business for pickup.  The not-so-amusing part is after the package does get to Anchorage, it is not uncommon for the UPS employee to then take it over to the nearest Post Office and mail it the rest of the way to the smaller Alaskan towns.

On the other hand, you have to maintain a sense of proportion, shipping is less than 5% of the total cost of this locomotive and it is packed with incredible features.  Consider how impressed everyone was with the 1989/1995 Williams releases that cost around $1300 and then compare it to this version.
