This particular engine was released in 1987 and therefore would be considered 'Modern' rather than 'Post War.' Regardless, the maintenance info you have found is probably satisfactory but just in case you weren't aware of it (and for future reference), FYI the 'Service Information' for the this particular engine can be found on Lionel's website. To access it type 'Lionel Support', then click on (and hold) 'Resources' at the top left hand side of the page, and on the drop down list select 'Owner's Manuals' and when that page opens up type the item number (in this case 6-18500) into the space provided and the Manual will then come up on screen.

Thanks for all the help. Lionel was the first place I went. The manual only gives the  lubrication points on the exposed parts of the trucks. My major concern is the worm gear/gear cluster area under the motor. What is the best way to remove the motor to gain access on 1987 post war crossover design like the 6-18500?
