As Bill K said above, the filters work great for most applications. Bulbs also work pretty well. I have had good luck with both #432 (screw base) or #1445 (bayonet). Both are 18 volt rated and last quite well in my experience. You can pick them and the bases up at any electronic jobber, or Radio Shack in a pinch. Wire one across each TIU output for starters, or MTH star terminal strip input, if you use them.

The bulbs can be seen.  The filters do work also.    Why not buy a rev L TIU and you will need none of them.  I had DCS about a year on my layout testing before it cam out and had to learn how to work it.   Late one night I tried a thought with the light bulb and the rest is history.  When I first test drove the Rev L TIU for MTH I had to ditch the light bulbs.  Today, the rev L is the latest and greatest to run MTH trains with.

I think down the road we are going to see great things from MTH with the WiFi now in camp.
