Finally got around to a couple of projects for that MMR thing.  Here's a new mogul that the J&RG recently acquired.  Did a few modifications to make more like the Chili Lines.  Tried all kinds of weathering techniques including new Pan Pastels.  Any comments are appreciated.  I did it as part of a challenge to create a clinic on weathering and detailing steam engines.

It started out looking like this:

And it became this:

Here are a few more detail photos:

As usual, I appreciate any comments (positive or negative)

Gary,

Glad you like it.  Actually, the final weathering is all pan pastels.  I disassembled the engine and tender and sprayed it with grimy black, then did various washes of grays to highlight some of the pipes and the detail items I added.  The final weathering was with Pan Pastels (white, black, gray, and rust streaks, etc.).  Pan Pastels require a little bit of experimentation to learn how to blend the colors but, otherwise, I think they are superior to chalks and far easier to control; much more like painting with oils or any other medium that can be easily blended.  Clark Kooning was the one who provided the advice to me, "learn to blend, blend, blend."

Al,

Welcome back from the dry, hot, and dessicated!  Hope the fall and winter allows better train adventures!

The Mogul is running DCC.  It turned out to be a very easy install, despite the fact that this is a not-DCC-ready machine.  It will be running primarily in the new staging yard I am just beginning to build.
