Good Afternoon everyone, I recently purchased a MTH Santa Fe PS2 Blue Goose locomotive and I have a question.  The train is equipped with the umbilical cord connector and I don't appreciate it that much and I was wondering if the MTH drawbar assembly could be added to this train, replacing the cable connector.  Would I have to upgrade to PS3, I'm searching for answers, any information would be appreciated, THANKS

There are 10-pin PS/2 "wireless" drawbars.  However, the mechanical mounting is quite different for the drawbar, and would require extensive mechanical work to accomplish.  IMO, it's not a practical modification unless you are doing it yourself and time isn't a factor.

You can come up with a straight tether that looks much better, that might be an option.

No, there was a 10 pin style "wireless drawbar" system on some PS2 engines- however, no, I could not recommend in good taste you doing this as  the MECHANICAL problem is way, way, way, bigger than the electrical one.

Again, the problem is, MTH then modified to a great extent the chassis mounting and pivot post area of engines equipped with such a drawbar for the now even bigger 10 pin wiring harness to pivot. You would have to modify BOTH the engine and the tender significantly.

Again, MTH made and used 10 pin PS2 style drawbar systems- but the loco and tender were previously modified extensively from previous tether designs on both ends of this.

Also, the 10 pin housing is out of stock for the tender side of this

This PS2 listing shows some of those drawbars

Wow, I thought there would be a problem, GRJ, would the "Straight Tether" be feasible, less problematic for installation, etc., and easier on the eye ?

As always product number matters. MTH made both Railking and Premier models, and there may be details that matter.

I know that Trainz had the Railking variant listed recently, and I would guess most likely a Premier version would have already been the wireless version.

The straight tether would be MUCH easier than attempting to use the "wireless" drawbar, which would be a lot of work.  The issue with the straight tether is the size of your curves.  If you have a layout with O72 and larger curves, it's not much of a problem to use the straight tether.  However, if you have an O31/O36 layout, the straight tether is bound to be problematic.
