MTH PREMIER BLUE COMET - PS1 BATTERY QUESTION

I have no idea because I’m a relative novice re mechanical things, but just want to say your Blue Comet is drop dead gorgeous.

I looked at your post again. Did you try it with the battery?

I still run MTH Proto 1 engines that work fine. Just not as much as Proto 2 and 3 and Lionchief plus because I love their prototypical slow speeds. 

The battery is needed for all the sounds.  You can run it probably in conventional.  More guys in the know will respond I hope.

Has never been run. Intend to install a new battery or BCR before running but would like to know if it's OK to run without battery. I run conventional and like my PS1 engines.

Do not attempt to run it until you put in a new, fully-charged green MTH battery.

You're welcome. I have the same loco and would hate to see you fry yours. Too beautiful to just sit on a shelf.

Without a fully charged battery, no PS1 engine will get out of neutral.

John, keep an eye out for these posts as you can bail someone out with the boards we took out of your engine.

Battery is needed for PS-1, though very early (90s) did not need them, middle ones (94-96ish) did and could get software conflicts, later ones(97 and later) still need them but less prone to software issues with dead batteries. G

Right George.  That is when QSI sold the boards to Mike.  The system had a battery back up switch for sound to stay in neutral.  As soon as Mike did the license deal with QSI we have the current (PS!) system. PS1 is a conventional system.  It has been said many times by MTH tech guys to use a new battery.  The old white battery is not a smart move.    I have people come to me often telling me someone told them to run trains without a battery.   I have a huge collection of PS1 systems from doing PS2 and PS3 upgrades.  

I just did a PS3 upgrade for BLUECOMET400.  His PS1 boards are in factory new condition.  If anyone needs a set of boards, contact John.  Before I remove any PS1 board sets, I test them with a new green battery.  Some times the owner wants them back and many do not.  I have people often send me the board sets they purchase to be checked out.  I do not need the train just the boards as I have a PS1 board and chip tester.

Many do not realize MTH still has new PS1 boards in stock.    The PS1 system properly operated with a proper battery (or BCR) is a strong system.

It's great to have you, Marty, available when we need help with the various PS boards. Fortunately for me, mine are in good shape at the moment.

Arnold, that would be me. 

Marty recently upgraded my PS1 Blue Comet to PS3. From the minute Marty handed me the remote control, I was hooked. This is the first time I've ever run a toy train with a wireless remote. Going from PS1 to PS3 is like getting a completely new loco. Smoke output is off the charts. I just added DCS to my layout last week, and will post a video of my Blue Comet running with all 7 cars. The Blue Comet--in any scale--has always been and always will be my favorite train.
