The earlier runs of Lionel die cast hoppers were terrific as well, and those had superior trucks and couplers. The Atlas diecast hoppers are great, as well as are the K-Line diecast hoppers. I have a bunch from each of these manufacturers.

I am asking the same question here as I asked in a similar thread a couple of days ago - does anyone know whether the new Lionel diecast hoppers have articulated couplers? Thanks.

Whats an "articulated coupler"?

Don't have the cars yet but they have arrived at dealers.   Supposedly have real coal loads.  Older K -Line hoppers with real coal loads are really nice.  Hope the new Lionel ones look as good.

I just picked up 2 K Line die cast 2 bay hoppers at Kutztown. They have real coal glued to the plastic insert. It's a bit too large for my use, so I'll be replacing them with my own smaller chestnut sized coal. The Lionel 2 bay hoppers I've seen have a slight taper at the corners.

A coupler that moves independent of the trucks. They were always made that way by all of the manufacturers, until Lionel, for some unknown reason, recently made some of their freight cars with couplers that were fixed, i.e, moved in lock-step with the trucks. There was an entire thread on this regarding the new run of Lionel milk cars that came with fixed couplers.
