No response from Legacy set?

Do the base lights come on? Does the base blink an led when you enter commands with the cab2? What does the cab2 display show? Is it not finding the base? Is the cab2 showing fully charged? 

Good morning Jack and thanks for your reply. Yes, the remote appears to be communicating with the base from what I can tell. I selected a different channel and let them search out the new one ntil they synced. 

The U terminal or base to track connection would be my first suspect.  The TMCC\Cab1 set needs to be off or connected to the legacy base with the data cable.

measuring the output at the U terminal is tricky. Perhaps you remember how to do it, CJACK.

I measure it with an oscilloscope, but there is a thread about it. Do a search on Dale M.

I first disconnected the TMCC base from the common lead and from the power supply. Then attached the common lead to the Legacy base and powered it up as usual. All appeared normal - lights on, charging circuit working, and the LED would pulse when I gave a command from the remote. Only when I changed a channel from the remote did I get the message 'Base not Found'. It seemed to be on Ch 2 if I remember so I hit the Channel button several times under the base. Then I 'searched' with the remote and it settled on Ch7. Still nothing.

I tried repeatedly by changing engine ID numbers and set it for TMCC operation then back to Legacy with  no results. At this point I disconnected the Legacy and reconnected the TMCC set and both engines operated normally. 

So when you said lights on, the engine head lights did not blink? That's good.

Did you program the engines into the base? Lionel may have erased all the engines? Did the cab2 display show the engine data when you put the engine number into the cab2?

Jack - No, I didn't think to re program the engines themselves as the info was still showing in the remote but that's an idea. Do you think that will make a difference?

I may be able to get back over to the clubhouse later tonight and could try that.

If the data was showing in the cab2, then it came from the base. So that's not it. But, starting over with programming an engine just to see if somehow the code was compromised might at least be something to do.

Overly simplistic answer here......is the train brake slide up or down?

Update 

I called Lionel this afternoon and was able to catch a nice young lady just before they closed today. I explained the situation and she suggested (as did you Jack) that I re-add the engines. I told her that the info all seemed to be still in the remote and she said that often the base gets wiped clean with the upgrade.

Tried again at the club tonight and all is well.  Thank you everyone for your helpful input.  Guess I should have thought of that myself... 

FYI,  there is nothing in the remote.

Yes this is a new one for the list of what to expect. Apparently, the base can be corrupted to the extent that the list of engines, etc. is somewhat intact, transmits, and appears on the CAB2 display, but the code is affected to an extent that requires restoring the engine's programming.

That's probably correct as the F3s were originally set up as train #18 and showed as such in the remote. Later I had reset it to #1 for running at the club.  It wouldn't respond to either until I re-entered it as #18.
