Ornament Storage box for trains

Those look like they work pretty nice. I like that you can see what is in them. I use 4 & 5 row baseball card boxes for my cars. I've never tried to put an engine in them but they work pretty well.

Scott, What is the mod you do to the lid and why? Can you show a more close up view of the label I can't quite read it in the above pic. Thanks!

The lid has plastic that extend down into bottom piece. I recommend cutting those out with a Dremel, otherwise the plastic top parts will rub the engine/rolling stock.

You may want to check back with them. Three days ago my local Target store was out of them-I bought four of them today, so the stores are still getting re-stocked with these.

Different color but same Sterlite box. I found they worked really well for ore cars. Can get 8 in there at two per row with good padding.  Other cars are mostly one per row.  I cut/shortened 4 of the plastic tabs on the lid as well using scissors.

I need to get more of these boxes and Target didn't have them at my local store. Has anyone seen them in their Target or other stores?

I use BCW trading card boxes, they come in all sizes.

   What size do you buy and where is the best place to buy them?

I havehad good luck with archival card boxes from the Container Store.

Walmart had them come in a few days before Christmas, Big Lots had some as well. More than likely you won't see these again until next Christmas. Target didn't get any this year. I bought several more at Walmart in early January some at 40% off.

Scott - I think that they are the same. They even have the same tabs on the cover that need to be cut off.

Good idea for those loose trains.

John, your idea is great. Not to exspensive either. Was searching the bay. Do they make  any of these type boxes especially the two and three compartment ones that will hold engines. Measured most of my scale deseil engines and they are almost over 18 inches long. The boxes I saw were not that long. Any suggestions you may have.

Btw when doug sold out of his oscale hauler boxes I got two. These are the best engine haulers. Hope he restarts up his box business again someday.
