This is actually two parts in one thread.

1. What color paint is recommended that matches the green parts in this kit (preferably something from the "Acryl" line of paints)?

2. How have others integrated this station into their layouts?  Although significantly undersized for use as a terminal, I can see it as a commuter station in the nicer/historic part of town.  I do have thoughts for an interior.

(Note: I did send a product request to Bachmann via their forum suggesting an add-on kit of additional platforms identical to the two included in the station kit.  I'm actually kind of surprised there isn't one out.)

I agree that it's undersized but I think it's an attractive piece, particularly within the context of Plasticville.

For my forthcoming retro-style Postwar layout, I am tentatively planning the following:

  • Union Station will be put in a historic section of the town, as you say.
  • In the back, the platforms will service a passenger loop straightaway.
  • The front of the station will abut a roadway which will include a #60 trolley.  This will cause everything to loosely follow the arrangement of the original Union Station in Providence, RI:

Since I live in Rhode Island and I'm trying to model other features of the area, this arrangement will make sense for me.

Apart from that, I'm just going to do something to put black on the insides of the structure (e.g., black construction paper), some translucent material in the windows, and illuminate the entire structure from within.  I don't own one yet, but from what I can see, I think it will have a charm all its own.

Please post photos of yours after it's set up.

Sorry for taking so long to get back, but here are the photos of the stock kit assembled.  I posed two different coaches for size reference.  (And yes, I realize the one canopy is warped:

It really is a small station; even the Lionel station platform towers over it.  I think it looks better elevated one track height (tubular or FasTrack) above the tabletop, as shown:

I've actually found most of my lionel and plasticville structures look better elevated like this.

Let me know if there are any other pictures of the station you want.
