I was making battery replacements using super caps, and I accidentally forgot to wire the connector in reverse polarity. This errant battery replacement went in my Rail King GG1 which has PS2, and I powered it up. The GG1 did not respond to DCS commands, so it is back on the work bench. What damage could I have caused to the PS2 electronics?

Hopefully, nothing. Truthfully, the supercap can be wired backwards and sort of work. They won't have the capacity, and you greatly shorten it's life. Electrolytic capacitor polarization is initially set at the factory by applying voltage to form the insulating oxide layer. That is why caps have a polarity and supercaps are no different. Reversing the polarity will damage the original insulating layer first and then start to form a new insulating layer with the applied polarity. It is not something that should be allowed to happen, so consider the capacitors damaged at the vary least, and they could exhibit excessive leakage current.
