This morning everything was working. I removed som rolling stock to lube axles. Powered everything back up and now I have no new engines to add. I've done all the usual things..power off power on..reset everything multiple times and still have no new engines to add.

I just wondered if anybody ever has a problem free DCS day ?

Thanks

Wait! so you haven't any new engines to add?

Are you going thru withdrawals?

Where's Matt? He knows what to do. Where's Scott? He'll consul you.

Yes and No. When I run my trains, a couple of nights a week, everything DCS works fine and all is good. It's when I take a break and get busy with other things and don't run for a month or two, when I get back into it again, 99 % of the problems I encounter are my own fault.

Thats what happens here. I work on the layout almost daily but only run trains 1 or 2 times a month

Do you have a PS2 engine in it with a dead battery?

What version of DCS are you using? using the App right? (or remote?)

Have you tested your track signal?

Is this just the consist your describing? It's missing or stuck in the inactive list?

Why are you using add new engine? Does the engine not respond? or is it actually missing from the remote or app?

Do you mean you are using the build consist ever time?

The latest version of the app keeps the consists in the active screen. So something is wrong here if you're describing the app.

how long do the engine sounds last when you shut down, if  your battery  is weak or bad and voltage does not hold long enough after shutdown you settings will not be saved! which will cause the issue your talking about. should hold 5 to 7 seconds after power is shut off. !!! your engine might even loose its id!

This is a screenshot from Apple, showing all the issues that MTH has fixed. Reported by MTH Trains to Apple Computer and is posted by Apple on the Apple App Store for all to read.

I can say I have experienced most of these issues and it is important that we as model railroaders report these issues to MTH. So they can have the MTH App Developers & Engineers improve the MTH DCS Wi-Fi.  These facts will make: "DCS - Simply the Best Way to Run a Railroad".

I  must say that I am very happy for those of you who never have any problems with DCS.  For me, it seems to be a constant battle!  Engines that have worked for years are all of a sudden "Engine not on track"!.  So I move the engine to another track and the remote finds it with no problem, run the engine to the place it sat when I got the engine not on tracks message, check signal and get a 10.  Recently, for some reason, I can ring the bell but cannot cut it off with the remote!  Have to shut track power off and then restart the engine.  Had a new PS3 F3 that the remote found and added and ran just fine.  Put the engine on the shelf and try it again several weeks later - it is completely dead.  I'm sorry but I do not thing all these issues are operator caused!

When things work as they should, it great!  But when it decides to act up, I find the system to be very frustrating!

I think if you do proper maintenance on your engines like charging batteries  before you run especially if has been a while, that way your sure the batteries are charged up before you try to run them after sitting for some time. ps3 maybe your not waiting for the upper cap to charge before you try to run them. I have been running mth trains for many years with very minimal problems! also do you change your remote batteries frequently when you need to a weak battery may a effect the running of DCS in remote also!

I haven't had a DCS related issue since I quit doing updates.  Off-hand I'm not sure what I'm running, it's something like 2.1 or 2.1# (I think but ain't sure.  could be 4.1 even).  It does everything that I want and need so my thought is "why mess with what's working?".  so I don't mess with it.  The version doesn't really matter here - the point is i have a version that seems error-free for me so I keep it.

I have had PS3 engine issues but they were all issues with the engine itself, not on the software side.

This is the same exact experience I had when I had a 3 rail layout. It was very frustrating to say the least. Back in the late '90s I had TMCC. I had not yet discovered this forum working with TMCC was frustrating beyond belief. I literally was pulling my hair out. Years later I figured out the problem I most likely had with TMCC was a ground issue but by then I had already given up on it. The weird thing was almost always when there was a danger of a wreck/crash that's when the I would get no response from the locomotive and this happened with both TMCC and DCS. I have seen how helpful this forum has been to me and hundreds of others with technical problems. Many thanks to the late Barry and GRJ, GGG, etc. I apologize if I left someone out.

Welcome

I bet 90%+ of the issues with DCS or TMCC/Legacy are user errors. Not wiring a layout correctly, not following the set up instructions, etc. Both DCS and TMCC work perfect on my layout. I followed the wiring instructions and have had nary a problem with either system. I'm fairly certain that if someone who is having issues with either system took their equipment to a layout that is performing properly with either system and plugged their components into that layout that they would work fine, isolating the issue to the layout wiring or construction. There are many, many variables in layouts that can play havoc with DCS or TMCC if the builder doesn't follow proper wiring or the instructions that come with either system. Judging by the amount of questions on this forum that relate to issues that are covered in the instruction manual a little reading up on how to operate either system would solve many user issues.

Alan,,Could this be the problem. I have the program on 2 different Android tablets. The one I normally use has v2.0.0 build 40 but checking the tablet I don't use is v3.2.1 build 53. Tablet 1 stays on MTH_DCS_3BC2. Tablet 2 is my everyday use on my home internet so apparently it did an auto update. Later today I'll update tablet 1 to latest version.

thanks

Yes alan. Joe

ok..updated tablet..3 of the 4 lines are running..the lashup still doesn't work..it's 4 ps3's so battery shouldnt be an issue. I've built and edited this lashup at least a dozen times each time seems  like I get a different result but it hasn't moved.  Sometimes all 4 engines start but the last 2 times only the head engine has started. I may be doing this wrong but I use the edit and delete all 4 engines then do an add mth engine. sometimes they come up to add and sometimes not. I either get a no new engines or no TIU. I keep hitting the refrsh until all 4 engines show up and the no TIU found message goes away then rebuild the lashup. The only thing I haven't done yet is crawl under the layout and hit the main power switch. FWIW I also switched tablets.

Everything was running fine last week with a 10 on all 4 tracks and the only thing I've done on the layout is landscaping with none of it being anywhere the tracks.
