Product # 6-11149  Lionmaster Big Boy

The engine chuff sounds fail, starting by sounding like the sounds are stuttering and then eventually quit. The time frame is sometimes 2 min. to a week. I will adjust the switch, sounds return, and the cycle starts again. I am beginning to think perhaps the problem is not the switch. There is a cap between the 2 contacts of the switch, could this be failing causing the symptoms?  I am at a loss as to what to look for now. All other functions of the engine work fine, except when chuff fails then no chuff or squeal brakes. Could the issue possibly be the Cap.  I cannot read the value of the Cap.  It is a very small round disk shape. Any idea of its value? I have replaced the switch 2 times.

All ideas welcome.

As a rule, you can get away with bending the arm on the switch a bit.  If you need to keep bending it, replace the switch.  They are dirt cheap.  I have seen what Goerge stated, look for it.  If you do end up as the switch being the issue, keep this in mind.  Both Legacy and TMCC locomotives use the same switch.  In TMCC, it unloads in the NC position.  In modular Legacy, the switch unloads in the NO position.  Your Legacy engine would be normally  open.  If you are trying to set it at the closed position, that would be your issue.
