Question to Lionel subway guys

Something to do with the door operation more so when the doors do not fully open.

I'd be interested, to see what you do and how you do it. So far I've had to repair a couple of doors that didn't want to open any more, and I've oiled the axles and the gears, but that's about it.  I never tried to replace brushes, for instance, (if that's even a thing anymore) or replace lights, but I don't run the trains very much.

Now we know there are some that run their subways a lot, fast and hard, and if they want their subways to last more than a few years, regular maintenance is a good idea.

And that tip early in the video about how to remove the body on the powered car was especially interesting to me. When I was adding interior detail to the power car, I actually succeeded in removing the body without having to disassemble the truck sideframes, but it was a lot of trouble to do, trying to get at those screws at an awkward angle, and had I known about your suggestion it would have been a lot easier.

I agree with you about the door opening mechanism being a finely engineered piece of work. I don't think Lionel gets sufficient credit for that design.

Fantastic video. Absorbed a lot of info from your video that will be taken to service my stubborn R-16 door. The section where you serviced the motor section of door fell out of frame (it happens) but talking through it made it helpful to follow. Truly appreciate you taking the time to walk through the entire process. One question, a 7 min mark (roughly), you use a red grease with a syringe. What brand of grease is this? Assume one can find it on the eBay or Amazon? Bill

Also if you have windows falling out (this seems to be a R-17 issue) here is the glue I use. Goes on white dries crystal clear.
