A co-worker just showed me a motor unit from a 2036 steamer, whose pickup roller wire came detached from its connection point on the pickup roller assembly:

I don't see any obvious ways of getting the roller assembly off to re-solder the wire. I can't even see where the wire attaches peeking through the ends of the motor assembly. Any guidance out there?

One other possibility.  I once was able to replace the wire by removing Lionel plate on the bottom, and taking out the E Unit.  I then used a solid wire, bent a small bend in it, tinned it.  I then threaded it from the back to where the metal grommet is, heated the grommet with the soldering iron, and was able to poke the wire through the grommet and solder it in place.  It was easier than replacing the whole plate, which I have done on other locos.
