I have a 4 way on the yard on my layout. LOVE it!!

We had two 3 ways on the yard on the modular layout. Absolute nightmare for 75% of the guys in the club to operate. Flip a coin as to which is more difficult to wire. A DZ1000 is a DZ1000. Sort of like the double slip switch, IF it is wired to an AIU and programmed as a route; simple to operate. But, it is not at all intuitive to operate manually.

We replaced the two 3 ways with six numbered switches with manual ground throws. There are still some that try to move the ground throws perpendicular to the track instead of parallel. I have only had to replace four. Two within 5 minutes of each other; broken by the same guy.

The 4 way is very easy to wire up.  I’m very happy with mine.

To wire the 3-way with 2x DZ-2500C switch machines requires 4 diodes and 2x DZ-108 relays.

For a non electrical engineer with no help from either DZ or Ross it took a while to figure out the circuit that included non-derailing.

The four way will be much the easiest for installation and operation.

As already stated, the 4 way is easier. The reason is it is basically 3 individual switches merged into a single piece. So you wire it the same as three individual switches.

Had them both, wired them both.  The 4-way is infinitely easier to wire up, work, and enjoy.

Of course, you could also do both!

Fourway wired and operated by Tortoise. (Service yard shot from Enginehouse roof). However it appears that installing switchstand lanterns will be a little tight. They are normally installed on the tie extensions and operated mechanically when switch is thrown..Will require some modification in location since equipment will hit some at spots .

ps: layyout dormant since 2010 but can still be powered .
