Today Fellow OGR Forumite RANDYT and I got together to run the MTH UP 4141 in honor of our late President. We lost a true Statesman, Soldier, CIA director, Senator, President and family patriarch.
I just started using ANIMOTICA video editor and was able to combine video clips and insert pictures. The link to the video on you tube is listed below.

I would love to get ahold of this locomotive! also wouldnt mind having the "funeral" car to go with it and place it on a shelf! Watching the ceremony today has caused a sense of great pride being in the military watching the ceremonies and what not, just a reminder of the dedication to our President, both past and present.
I'm sure it in the works at MTH or Lionel as a funeral train.. Put me on the list.

The first issue was with Proto-2 identifiable by a smaller American Flag on the tail and was available in hi-rail only. The later one was Proto-3 and also available with scale wheels and fixed pilots and the flag was the correct size. I bought the re-release unit with scale wheels and sold my original unit to a friend and it's still running strong. I have the Lionel business train set minus the diner and I plan to switch them over to Kadees for use with my heritage units and the 4014 Big Boy. UP4141 was also produced by Lionel in Legacy (hi-rail only) and by OMI in 2-rail only.
UP4141 did go out into UP's system and supposedly visited all states served by the UP. A friend of mine in northern California caught some photos of it, which I have somewhere. It was kept under guard wherever it "slept" if it was out in the open. According to the news stories, it has spent the last several years at a UP facility in Arkansas stored indoors until now. There's a rumor circulating that the unit is going to be retired minus it's running gear to the Bush library. I can't really see them re-painting it.

If I could find one, Lionel, preferably, might be the only new loco I could buy without getting grief from my better half (a devout Bush 41 fan)

The Bush engine can be found in MTH catalogues...2009, vol 2, pg 31, Railking; 2014, vol 2, pg 83, Premier.
I live in Houston. Local coverage was absolutely outstanding...they provided continuous coverage of the entire train trip (crowds at every small town and crossing). Front cab camera showed UP's pristine right-of-way!
Once the train arrived in College Station (TX), coverage was turned over to the national networks which covered less of the train and more personnel interviews.
Will have to wait and see who does a reissue first: MTH or Lionel. I'll be in line for one from either manufacturer if/when it materializes.

It was also offered in MTH’s 2007 Vol.2 catalog, a Premier model 20-2828-1.
Serveral years ago a person had one for sale on another O gauge forum, but I thought about buying it but didn’t. Now, I wish I had.

Last I recall was 50 years ago, RFK's in 1968. Coverage was very similar to Bush 41's, despite not having 24 x 7 opinion ... er, I mean news broadcasts. Don't remember Ike's in 1969; would have been at school.

Does that mean you didn't have to mute the sound while CNN and Fox News broadcasters and their guests rattled on with conflicting misinformation about the train for the duration of the trip. Suppose at least broadcasting much of the staging, departure, trip and arrival was laudable.

I must admit one of our local TV anchors made the comment he had made a trip to LA a number of years ago on a UP train and they had to proceed slowly because of "bad" track conditions.
Hearing that comment I wanted to shout, "Are you blind"? I wish my layout right-of-way looked as good as the UP's we were viewing!
I watched the coverage by KHOU Channel 11 over the internet. They were talking to by standers along the track at different places. I wish Channel 11 would release their show on DVD.

Yes that F news network had some misinformation. Loco called a 'car'. Loco just made for this train. Never used until today etc etc.
I ignored all the info good and bad and enjoyed the ride from start to finish.....even had my DVR record it in case I want to ride again. It was great coverage. I don't do much modern.....but if they make it....
I believe Lionel would have a winning set on their hands if they produced a Bush 41 funeral train complete with “glass” doors so you could peer in and see the coffin. Similar to the Lincoln funeral train. I know I would be up for one.

By the time they could design, manufacture, ship and deliver a set like this, the nostalgia would be gone....especially at the price they would charge.
BTW...I have both the Lionel 4141 engine and the matching caboose MIB. I ordered it when it was first introduced. At the time, I wasn't sure why I bought it. But now I know.

Sidetrack Hobbies is showing a George Bush 4141 Railking Imperial in stock currently, if anyone is interested in it.
Was the nostalgia for the Lincoln funeral train gone? No, I don’t think so. All of these items have been produced, put it together in a funeral train and you have a winner.
Lincoln had a bit different standing in the history books. Combine the Civil War, Emancipation Proclamation, Thirteenth Amendment and his Assassination and you have some history to talk about. While HW did some good things, it is difficult to compare their accomplishments.
Additionally, I believe that Lincoln was the first to have a funeral train....which certainly adds to the desirability of a set like this.
While only a few of us old train guys actually remember the Lincoln Presidency 
, I think it could be argued that Lincoln's time in office was much more significant to the history of the United States than HW's time. Therefore, certainly a Lincoln Funeral Train would hold more significance than an HW Funeral Train.
Hopefully, someone will produce a Warren Harding funeral train as well!

I pulled a WbB 'DASH' loco off the shelf....it's close enough for me so if I want one I'll repaint this unit.....I think I may have paid $100 for her used. That and $20 paint and my own decals.....about my comfort level........NOT $4500!!!!
I told my wife last night about the prices on the *bay. She said as with the Beanie Babies and Cabbage Patch Kids and the like, It's supply and demand for this particular time and people can ask what ever they want. My son told me a lot of years back about the baseball cards he had and what they were worth. I told him "They're only worth what people are willing to pay".
I noticed that no one was standing on the back platform of the observation car as the train passed. I guess this was due to security concerns?

Now Kato has a N scale #4141 coming......so O can't be far behind.
Yeah, I noticed that price as well on the bay for Lionel's 4141. I was fortunate that I ordered Lionel's 6-83019 UP Excursion Passenger 2-pack which included the "Flag Car" when it was available. Living in UP land it was just a something I just had to have - I love it!.

I was able to grab the Lionel caboose (MTH didn't release one in Premier) off eBay a couple of years ago (none of the Heritage cabooses are prototypical, but you gotta love 'em). I'm glad I got it as I haven't seen one for sale since and given the prices a couple of sellers are asking for 4141 I can only imagine how inflated the caboose price is.
The price people are paying for them is crazy. I bought my lionel for $450 and got the caboose from a forum member for a great price. I'm glad I have them. Athearn and Kato are both re-issuing theirs in HO and N scale respectively and it sounds as tho Lionel will reissue theirs as well. People need to slow their roll.
This would make for a great OGR article if someone re-created President Bush's final train ride on their layout...

Where can this be found? I checked MTH's site, and I am on their email list and have found no listing. I will ask at my local MTH shop tomorrow.

My local dealer announced at the recent DuPage train show that MTH will re-issue 4141 in both Railking and Premier along with the two cars. He said he spoke directly with the head of sales at MTH.
With so many forum threads about this topic already, I'm just going to pick this one to post so as not to step on the MTH thread. As noted on the Ryan and Dave show last week, Lionel will be releasing a special set to honor 41. We are currently in the final stages of preparing the Volume 1 catalog, and with the new tooling planned for the set, we won't be able to show it until later in 2020. Normally we keep pretty quiet about future releases, but this train has been the most requested I've seen in the past 5 years and being in the Christmas spirit, here's an early Christmas present for you all!
We will re-release 4141 both separate sale and as part of a full set. Powered and non-powered versions are also planned for those who may just want to have this as a show piece. The set will include four cars, three of which will require new or modified tooling: City of Portland (new dining interiors for the dome), Council Bluffs (open doors and interior of course!), Overland (StationSounds diner), and Kenefick (all new business car tooling.) As a special train, this set will include figures in the interior of all cars and special sound recordings for the diner and locomotive. Also available will be additional SD70AH's (9096 as well as two others, 9069 (led the advance train) and 9088 (paired with 1943 on some trips last year) and additional separate sale cars to complement this or the other UP cars released previously and expand your trains.
Too early to give a price or availability date at this time. As mentioned, this has been one of the most requested items in recent memory so we want to take the time to do it right, and do justice to the prototype and of course the esteemed President himself. He deserves nothing less. Thank you to all who have reached out with your suggestions and comments.

The Moguls have returned from the factory. Customer Service will be checking each one and then sending them back to the original owners - they will likely return to you shortly after the new year.
Unfortunately, that's all the update I have time for as there are Broadway Limited sets in the warehouse awaiting and lunch time is over. The set has a baggage car. UP’s baggage is called “Council Bluffs”. Ryan noted in his post the car will have a detailed interior and windows instead of baggage doors on one side
I'm not asking this to tick people off or sound funny, but will a O scale casket come with that passenger car, given it's a set for the funeral train?
Someone I work with who's not into model trains but loved Bush 41 as a President, was asking me yesterday, as he'd found notes on the models of UP 4141 in a Google search...
TURBGINE, MTH just sent out the news letter with that announcement.
Although I wish I had a layout - I don't. Maybe someday I will but for now I'm just a an autograph collector and Presidential buff. I would like to buy one of the soon to be produced reissues of teh Bush 4141. Which is a better display unit? The Lionel or the MTH? I imagine that Lionel is preferable because of the history associated with it. Which unit has better detail and looks more realistic? If anyone wants to see my collection - please look at TheKaplanCollection.com
When it comes to a display standing out and catching attention, I would go with G scale in a lighted display case with a mirrored back.
For display purposes the OMI version would be the best. But there are only about 10 of those and I would imagine they are not going to be found in any public market for the foreseeable time.
A frined of mine has the OMI version and ive been working on him for years to let it go
