Hello everyone,

Been very very busy (and enjoying it) that's what it's all about. I upgraded this very nice MTH proto 1 conventional Big Boy to Electric Railroad. Since this engine is the Articulated Big Boy, I installed ERR's Articulated steam sound. Lastly I changed all the lighting to LED's. See attached pictures, before video, and after video.

Thanks for looking,

Alex

Hi Guys,

I thank you all for the great comment's.

Some of you asked what I used for an antenna, the simplest and easiest way I've found for an antenna. Is I slip the antenna wire through the bottom of the chassis and I run it along the side bottom edge of the tender, and then run it up along the inside of a vertical grab rail. It works great.

Thanks,

Alex

Are you kidding me? I thought those ERR upgrade kits ONLY WORKED on Lionel and K-Line engines!!!

If this is a joke I am gonna explode.

How come ERR doesn't advertise that MTH trains can be converted using its boards? Why don't they sell upgrade kits for MTH?

So I guess this means that MTH engines with ERR boards will operate under TMCC (no more Protosound).

I find this all so amazing and tantalizing.

Alex the Great has struck again. ERR has really nice sound available with the new 5.0 rs chips available.

Makes you believe the sky is the limit on any older previously released locomotive.

Thanks for sharing.

BTW Alex, did you use the carryover tender cord, or install a new one?

Do you thing an IR could be used as well?

As far as upgrading an older TMCC engine (Erie Pacific style) with the jump, is this a plug and play upgrade?

Thanks Alex....

And MTH does sell PS 2 upgrade kits for steam and diesel. These too can be installed in any engine as long as it has a can motor with flywheel.

Thanks for clearing this up for me, Mack. I am not as experienced as many long time forum members. I do know what a can motor is, but I am uncertain as to what a fly wheel is. Is it that flat cylindrical thing on the top of the can motor that spins around? In my MTH Protsound 2 engines it seems to have stripes on it - I suspect that might be the so-called "fly wheel"... although it doesn't actually fly - LOL!

I also want to say to Alex (the OP) that his project is spectacular! Extremely inspiring. Excellent job Alex.

Hi Andrew,

That is not totally correct. ERR makes the AC Commander specifically for ac open frame (Pullmor) motors. It provides TMCC to Pullmor engines but does NOT provide for constant speed ( I.e. Cruise control). The ERR cruise commander can only be used with DC can motors.

Regards,

Mack
