Will I damage my revision L TIU or my laptop during a software upgrade using the USB port if I leave it connected to auxiliary power during a software upgrade?

Which is best and what is common practice:  Use USB power vs. auxiliary power for TIU rev. L USB cable connected DCS software upgrades?

To explain:  I have 2 revision L TIUs to finally upgrade to the latest DCS software (Version 6.10).  I have older TIUs with the serial port and have previously left my TIUs connected to their auxiliary power (15V DC 4 amp) during upgrades.  Now that I have revision L TIUs with the USB port and noticed that the USB port may supply power during upgrades, I would like to know the best and most common successful practice for upgrades.  My preference is to relieve my laptop from the power load to the TIU and save laptop battery power by leaving the TIU connected to its auxiliary power supply during the TIU (and DCS remote) software upgrades.  However, I obviously do not want to damage my TIU or laptop.  I wonder what others on this forum have been doing.  I tried searching the forum, but could not find an answer.

Put another way, since the update takes time and is a critical process that should not be interrupted and we definitely do not want a brownouts or other condition while writing firmware to storage in the device, powering soely across a USB and praying nothing happens is one potential way to brick a TIU.

Again many computers have USB power limitations, not to mention power loss across the cable and connections. Given that scenario, you are outside of recommended parameters for safe programming.

Again, highly recommend that the TIU be powered from a stable and solid power source like AUX or fixed channel 1. By far, AUX power would be my recommendation as typically, your track power input is also actually connected to the track and say you cat knocks over a car causing a derailment short right in the middle of programming.

Ideally, the TIU should be isolated (not wired into track or transformers, aux power in from a reliable source, and then no chance the USB cable or power can be disturbed while programming would be "best practice".
