Hello everyone,

If this has been done before my apologies, I don't think Lionel manufactures a bracket system for this type of mounting,

so i made my own. I wanted to mount my Legacy base upright on the wall for two reasons, one i want it next to all my other electronics which are also mounted on the wall, and two i didn't want it laying flat on a shelf or table because it would be in the way. If you mount the Legacy base upright the way it's manufactured the CAB2 will fall out of the Legacy base, so i made a wooden base and will list the materials and details below. See photos below.

Material / details

Two pieces of basic 1/2 inch plywood which were cut on an angle from zero to 3 1/2. This measurement comes from placing the Legacy base against to the wall in an upright position. The upper part of the legacy base will lay flat and the bottom will protrude out 3 1/2 inches. Once i had this measurement i cut my two sections out of my plywood.

Other materials  two one inch L brackets, and a few 1/2 screws.

WHEN OPENING UP THE BASE YOU MUST REMOVE THE PLUG FOR THE CHARGER SWITCH

THIS IS THE CHANNEL SELECT BUTTON WHEN OPENING THE BASE UP YOU MUST BECAREFUL

THERE'S A GREY BUTTON WHICH YOU WILL SEE IN THE NEXT PICTURE THAT WILL FALL RIGHT

OUT WHILE DISASSEMBLING. THIS MUST BE REINSTALLED WHEN ASSEMBLING.

990 base mounting

Hi GR John,

Yes you're correct this is the hard way, the reason why i did it like this is if someone bangs into it there's no way for it to come off. The other mounting method if you hit it there's a good chance it will pop off and hit the floor. I didn't want to take any chances.

John, not sure about reception yet, tomorrow is test day. I will let you know!!!

Thanks,

Alex

Steve,

Great idea!  I need a safety net around everything I touch!

Just last evening, I was looking at the edge of my temporary layout, and the thought of some sort of safety net came to mind.  Do I think my trains will jump the track into the chasm below?  Not as likely as I drop them trying to put them on or off the track!!

Alex,

Your idea is very good, because sure as shooting someone, namely 'yours truly' will bump into the factory mount and knock it off.  I keep my hands in my pockets when visiting layouts, and then bump into controllers anyway.

Hi Guys,

Here's a test video, so far on the outer main line I have no Legacy signal issues.

This weekend I will test the inner main, and then after that I will test the signal

strength of MTH DCS.

Thanks for the nice comments guys, Mark this is why I didn't use the easy method of mounting. I can just imagine when I have a load of people here and someone bangs into the Legacy base and it pops off and hits the floor OUCH!!! LOL!!!

Thanks again,

Alex
