Weaver made those cars, I wonder who bought them, and if they are available.

Lionel has those dies, but I don't know if they'll offer the hoppers again, unless they decide to offer a cheaper scale line as Atlas does with their Trainman line.

Opps, well maybe Lionel would sell them to other manufacturers and importers such as,,hhhmmmmm lets see...maybe....Menards!

Just a thought

I'd love to be able to put together a long, steam-headed log train w/ 40 ' skeleton log cars fully loaded (not "shorty " log cars) but at current market prices for existing product I just can't raise the investment capital.  Perhaps Menards would come up with something for the traditional operator in this railcar.  Even if they were "scale" size, I could use several, and perhaps there are a few scale operators who could use them also.  $50 to $60 dollars a pop for currently available items is a deal breaker for a few of us, but with Menards history of pricing, perhaps skeleton log cars could become more affordable.

Jim,

1st let me say this, for the price we are paying for the fantastic WWII  Commemorative Box Cars Menard's is doing a great job with the Box Cars they are now offering.  The new Coper and Military Vehicle Flat Cars are now serious stuff also. IMO Menard's could offer a Premier Box Car line, for just a few dollars more, with the Atlas type Premier detailing, it would be great.  In my case I would love to have the original 2 tone Wood Side, Wellsville, Addison & Galeton Box Cars offered by Menard's.  I would purchase 6 different numbered box car in a minute.  Where do I order?

The American Car & Foundry ACF Center Flow 4600 Cubic Foot Capacity 3-bay covered hoppers, because they were very common between 1965 and 2005, plus many of them are still in service today.

Union Pacific, Chicago & North Western, Soo Line, Santa Fe, Burlington Northern, BNSF are railroad schemes that can be seen on them now.

It can be made in full O scale with molded on details to be reasonably priced.

A lot of these suggestions have never been done in o-gauge, which leads to the conclusion that Menards would have to work up brand new tooling.

Are all of their freight car offerings thus far from old tooling (k-line or wherever) or did they actually tool up new dies for flat cars, etc?

Menards can send an HO scale car to their manufacturer to copy.  The gondola I mentioned does not have too many added details and would be a good choice. Plus, All of the other manufacturers are dragging their feet.

Everything so far have been clones of existing postwar-style (traditional-size) cars, with slight variations (such as the open stirrups on the 11" flatcars). The one exception to date is the long flatcar (note that even those have not been described as "scale" in any official marketing materials).

I'm guessing that one criteria for items added to the lineup is the ability to negotiate 031 curves, as prior to the introduction of the long flatcars, it was asked what was the longest carbody that could still round an 027 (or 031) curve.

I do notice that 'Menards' has liked this topic

I'd like a flat auto carrier with two police cars, each car with working red/blue police lights on top.  A flat car carrying a large construction vehicle with flashing safety lights (yellow?) would also be very cool.  I like their flat cars with vehicle loads with working lights.  I like these products because they are a sharp distinction from the more common box and gondola cars.  I have the F-150 security truck with working headlights and taillights and it is one of my favorites.  I understand there is a flat load with a lighted ambulance, but I have not seen it in action.
