Are you sure it's a decal and not a photo etched paint mask?  A lot of the newer products use high res screens and paint the lettering/decoration on.

 

If it really is a decal, there are decal solvents that can be used to remove the decal with minimum damage.  There is a PolyScale product called ELO (Easy Lift Off) that works well on most paints BUT you should be careful with its use.  If you get too aggressive with the amount of ELO used or how long you leave it on the object you may start to attack the paint underneath.  You may want to test the product/procedure on the underside/inside/backside to make sure it isn't removing something you want to keep.
