I dunno...but I hope its done right.  I'd like to see Overland do a Brass version but they've been quiet in their camp for a few years now.  We won't see these on the rails until late 2016 early '17 so I'd guess Lionel and MTH will hold off the Big 4 until they see how they will actually be painted by the roads.  Maybe a Demonstrator release 2016 Vol. 2, if they retool, like they should for this one.

BTW be careful posting pics, the copyright police are out on these, hince why I took my picture down and posted the link in my Revealed thread.

The correct answer is BOTH!

Matt,

I like your answer!!

I guess I should answer since I posed the question.  I am a steam fan with a little bit of first generation diesel thrown in; namely F units and RS1 and RS3.  However, since my friend is a machinist at the GE diesel engine plant at Grove City, Pennsylvania I may buy a GE Tier 4 if one isn't much money, namely a RailKing or maybe a Lion Chief Plus.

Interesting that people are suggesting MTH.  MTH hasn't tooled up a new premier diesel in about nine years or so.  Outside of the Railking es44ac, they haven't brought out much new tooling in any o-gauge line.

My intepretation is that they have given up.  Look at all the large newly-tooled items that Lionel has produced or announced in the last three years.  Auto carriers, 86ft box cars, sd40, etc,

Of course Lionel isn't distracted with HO manufacturing...

If MTH has given up why did they make the SD60E that has been announced. That's all new tooling. The O gauge demographic is shrinking and tooling is expensive. I imagine that in order to justify steel molds a company would have to sell about 5000 models however making the tools out of aluminum is much cheaper however you shorten the life of the tool significantly. Companies aren't in this business so we can have trains, they are in the business to make money and if your not making money you're not a company for very long

Matt, I hope you are right and I am wrong.  But rather than tool up the sd70ace-t4, I really wish MTH would overhaul their SD40-2, SD70MAC, and SD70M tooling so that they make both a nice 3RS model, and a passable 2-rail model.  There are maybe 7,000 prototype on the rails of that group, I'm guessing.

But I'm not holding my breath...

I'm not sure but I think the SD70ACe-T4 is 2'6" longer than the SD70ACe. Anyone have the technical details on the SD70ACe?

Our guests never notice things like that if the proportions are still correct. The Lionel AC44AC shown with the headlights over the windshield rather than in the nose for certain models, they pick that up instantly as that is the part they see and remember how it looked.
