I have a set of the Lionel gates and one my sons managed to break one of them by pushing the gate down when it was raised.  Now its operation is inconsistent, despite my attempts to tinker with it.  Given that I have to replace at least one of these gates and so I will be re-wiring them, I was thinking of trying to use a relay instead of the Lionel IR device that they currently use.  (I don't like the contactor method and I don't believe insulated rail would work with these, just looking at the number of wires.)  However, while I have wired plenty of Lionel / MTH accessories over the years, I've never used relays as I've seen described in some of the O gauge publications.  Does anyone have, or could they point me to, a good, relatively easy to follow wiring diagram and point out what relays I would need?  And a source for the relays?  I am a newbie in this area, so all pointers are welcome.  Thank you in advance.
