The railroad posted a detailed update about the 1309 on their Facebook page yesterday morning. For those who have been wondering the locomotive will remain numbered 1309 but the tender will be lettered "Western Maryland." The link is below for those who are interested.

Also of note - they are now selling tickets for a "first run" July 4th Weekend.

Personally, I'll wait to buy tickets, just in case. Having seen, photographed, climbed on as a kid, etc that loco as it rusted away at the B&O Museum, seeing it run will be quite something for me.

You and I must have had very similar childhoods! I'm really looking forward to this as well.

Must have! I see we live in the same place, too!

Good to see the update.

I must say though about a week ago in their update of the rebuild from their curator they said they are in "no rush" to push for a first steam up in late May and have it pulling excursions in June/July. Now they are promising a July 1st first public excursion?

Sorry to be a Negative Nancy, but I would hate to buy a ticket to be one of the first people to ride behind a C&O H6 and then find out it won't be pulling the train up the mountain. Just my opinion of course.

That is exactly why I'm going to wait a bit to buy tickets to ride. I remember a big up roar about one of the steam locomotives for the NS steam program not being ready to run, despite them selling tickets and later selling out the train and promising the steam engine. They had to run the train with NS diesels. This was maybe 5 years ago.
