kids were running train through the lionel chief control. really a kid and also adult friendly. then on way out pick up a couple of hot dogs and soda and had a picnic on the truck tailgate plus they are pet friendly so the hot dog dog went with us. actually my wife bought one of these trains for under our tree easy set up runs great just have to get smoker to work.

Its mostly the photo on the right, but I think its just due to the camera angle. Probably just an optical illusion.
I did a image search of the Hudson locos and they did have pretty tall tenders that were also very long. It's probably all in the ballpark.
Very few large corp stores allow the space for an electric train layout, gold stars for Bass Pro Shops. Hope they sell a bunch of the train sets.
According to their website, they have their Bass Pro Christmas set, the Polar Express in O and G, along with the Pennsy Flyer Lionchief sets. Kinda surprised to see such a variety.

It may be in fact, but the silver roof on the cab makes the engine look lower.

Starter set engines are poor smokers. Normally the track voltage to run the train is much less than the voltage needed to smoke well. Normally you have to lower the heater resistor value. Though all this depends on which smoke unit is installed. G

The silver bells engine and tender is the same as the Bass Pro set and on a good side profile the tender does stand a little taller than the engine. Not a deal breaker for me as we are not talking about a $1000 or better Legacy locomotive but a starter set engine that most kids won't know or care about the tender size anyway. The puffer smoke units in those engines typically won't exactly blow you out of the train room Like a fan driven unit.
In regards to the tender...I've got one of those 4-4-2 engines (great little buggers). Regardless of whether it is a tender, caboose, or whatever, pretty much ANYTHING towers over that engine....

This years Bass Pro Christmas set, the one shown in the first post photo, is Lionchief. Low smoke output is not an issue with Lionchief.
Way to go Bass Pro Shops. Just another way that they set themselves apart.

the engine is metal and quite heavy, and runs well, this is as far as I go in the hobby but in my view nice running train and my granddaughter can run it.

Have not been into a Bass Pro shop in a while, looks like I will have to pay them a visit, and see the train layout. A big thumbs up to them for the Christmas Train Layouts in their stores.
