Question is:

When installing ERR CC Lite, or any other ERR Cruise Commander product, is the existing E-Unit (electronic direction control) removed from the engine?

I have searched for this, read the ERR installation manuals, watched a Legacy Station installation video, and I'm just not sure.  It seems right that you would, but it doesn't seem to be discussed directly, perhaps because the answer is obvious to everyone - except me...

My installation candidates are a Lionel Polar Express "Baby Berkshire" (first year version), and a K-Line starter set MP-15 switcher.  Both have electronic reversing units, and I'm not sure if I should remove them, or at least disconnect them, when installing a ERR CC Lite?   Will I still be able to run in conventional after the CC Lite install?

Thank you and Happy Holidays!  Alan

Thanks G - not at the beach right now , but live close to the beach in my avatar photo, same one our POTUS is vacationing at. I was just outside, beautiful clear sky, 62 degrees, and in the quiet early hours I can hear the surf.  Great place, many more people living here now then when I was growing up - it's not the same as "back in the day...".

But it's early, dog finished her biz in the yard, so back to bed for me, thanks for the reply!

Yes, thinking regular Cruise commander.  I gathered that from some other threads that were discussing the "safe" realm of ops for the CC lite.  I don't know what the stock motor in Williams brass will pull amp wise, but I tend to like to load em up, either to fast or to heavy .

I've been trying to catch some of Gunrunner John's info on these threads as well.  I'm also thinking of some other modifications to my Williams K4 such as shortening the front end, and correcting the swing geometry on that front truck... Might be a fun topic to work through in a new thread.

And John, Thank you for your responses and answers as they have certainly helped to shape my plan forward with this loco.

I have done several brass engines.  Unless your big on LEDs you don't have to take out the boiler front lights.  It is a self contained assembly with CV headlight and markers.  You can feed it from the TMCC based light output.  Keeps the boiler front neat.  Especially if your adding fan driven smoke to replace the sleuth unit.  G

John, I disagree  It is a 6V constant light.  The ones I have done worked fine.  I guess it is personal preference.

My whole point is unless you know off the bat you want LED I do not take out the assembly.  Some brass, especially older has grain of rice and getting LEDs to fit may take a lot of work.  So depending on skills and preference and specific models, don't rip out right off the bat.    G
