I can envision an E5 making the trip  - along with other IRM stablemates.

Update on the New York Central 4068 & 4080 E-8's!

 

There is big set-back, the FRA changed the rules upgrading standards for excursion equipment to match small freight line rules, "Being built with two prime movers, they both have to be running." One power plant in each loco is not working and will need a lot of work. The Medina RR Museum intends to appeal and ask for a waiver on this rule.

 

 

I don't know if CSRM has fixed their SP E8 but I was told it had only one working prime mover in it.  UP is also not letting museum equipment move on their rails at the moment, Omaha legal dept, unless there has been a real recent change.  Sadly CSRM SP6051 and WP913 are land locked for the time being as is any F unit from WPRM in Portola CA.

The BNSF mainline speed limit for passenger is 79MPH, per FRA regulations. Thus, the 9911 and her train never exceeded 79MPH. Notice how that electric speedometer bounces around so much.

My wishlist (knowing many of these currently aren't operable and would need to be rolled in as static displays):

 

The PA being worked on by Doyle McCormack (love that NKP Bluebird paint!)

 

The pair of PAs in Mexico

 

FTs that are scattered to the the winds in the U.S. and Mexico; an A-B-B-A set would be splendid

 

The D&H Sharks in Michigan

 

The PRR E-7 in Strasburg

 

FAs - several are out there, many need fresh paint 

 

The Burlington E-5 and matching Zephyr cars

 

The trio of chicken wire former BAR F-3s

 

BL-2 (sorta streamlined - I vote yes for several of these beasts to be invited) - I'm partial to the Monon BL-2 at the Kentucky Railway Museum

 

The Indiana Transportation Museum Monon painted F units and string of streamlined former SF coaches

 

FL-9 units in that snazzy NH paint scheme

 

Aerotrain, anybody?  

 

South Shore 802 and 803 (Little Joes for the non-South Shore types) 

 

PRR GG-1; that beauty is probably the illustration for the word streamlined in the encyclopedia

Technically, Doyle doesn't "have", nor does he "own", that "big orange streamliner". Besides, SP 4449 is currently out of service getter her FRA mandated 15 year inspection.

Doyle purchased a "wrecked" ALCO from Canada, that had been overhauled and subsequently derailed/rolled over. Thus, the entire engine/generator, electrical cabinet, plus key internal components, are from that Canadian ALCO (M420?).

Glad to see these Diesel classics getting their rightful due...even in the midst of all this Big Boy mania.  Time to remember the incredible accomplishments of people like Dr. Dick Dilworth and those of his generation ....in a context beyond that of a bunch of RR villains. And maybe if a few more of us wake up, we can avoid the fate of Espee 4450, and N&W / VGN 173 !

Villains....because they were responsible for the tools that did in everyone's beloved steam power.   OTOH, remember back in the day, the vast majority of the population was glad to see steam going away...and not just RR travelers either. Hard for us to believe today, but there were some people in Virginia, back in the '50s, who thought S. T. Saunders was the good guy !
