not being a "pe" guy,,it is eye popping, you will have a golden Christmas to remember !!!
Great photos Brian! The Gold PE looks perfect running through your North Pole layout.
Emile
Fantastic! Oh to only have the space to layout O72. Theres nothing I don't like about it. The view of the observation platform is great.
Unfortunately; examining my Golden Ticket, it doesn't specify special edition anywhere on it.
Thanks for sharing Brian.
Looks great Brian & Elizabeth. Enjoy it.

That gold PE looks right at home on your layout, Brian.
Thanks for the pictures and backstory.
what a beauty! Looks fantastic!
Was there a golden ticket with the train? If there was mine seems to be missing
There are some layouts that simply make you smile!
"Really need to get up there some day to see that set as well as your other terrific passenger trains. Would be nice to meet you too my friend!"
We have a guest room Sam with your name and Barbara's on the door.

We have been away for the day and just got home. I will be happy to post some interior shots for you tomorrow. The PE sound sets for the Gold Edition and Black version are identical.

Chris, Elizabeth found the ticket in a desk drawer and I suspect it came with the original PE set from 2004. It was NOT included with the Gold Edition engine.
That is amazing, thanks for sharing the pics Brian!

Oops, guess Mike is going to be sending me a nasty gram LOL
I was at Charles Ro supply in Malden MA today. He has some engines in stock and just got the cars in.
Thanks for the post Dotty. I am sure some Forum members out there will be glad to learn where they still have the opportunity to obtain this engine and cars. Nice photo as well.
I think a lot of people who were skeptical of this set when it was announced are now sold and have regrets not ordering it. It's just a beautiful train and I have no doubt will be a huge seller when and if it is re-released down the road. Look at how many people ordered the scale black version this time around after missing out during the last run. I think we'll be seeing similar interest the next time this is released. And maybe Lionel doesn't want to dilute the brand, but it would be nice to see this in the starter set for those who do not run scale either because of space or monetary concerns.
Either way, thanks for sharing. Lionel hit a homerun on this for sure. I would've ordered it myself but didn't have the black version and could not afford to get both this year.
Neither one. It's Gold paint.
Emile
"Neither one. It's Gold paint."
But to elaborate just a bit on Emile's comment, this is one fine paint job. The engine & cars have been carefully done and the features stand out better than most engines because of the gold paint. If you haven't purchased one and can still find a Gold Berk, I sure would get my hands on one ASAP.
Brian is right on the money about the paint job. Once you see the Gold PE in person you'll see why a lot of us prefer it to gold plate. I don't think the PE would look as good if they gold plated it.I'm not sure how to explain why, but the Gold PE just stands out in a way that hard to define. Whatever the reasons why Lionel finished it this way, the end result is that the Gold PE is a Home Run.
Beautiful pics. Enjoy!
