Here is the service manual for the handcars. Scroll to page 10. Carefully press out the groove pin in the handle pump to disengage the handle pump from the spur gear arm. Take out the screw on top and lift off the body. Chances are you will have to press off the drive wheels and change the worm gear. Get spares, as from my experience, they can wear in a matter of minutes if everything is not set right. Make sure the arm and the gear rivets are tight, and the arm and gear do not wobble.

Your Snoopy & Woodstock Handcar was produced in 1990, and was the first to use a revised chassis. Therefore, the link and directions that are provided won't work.

Here's the link for the revised Handcar. Larry's instructions about removing the pin from the handle still apply, but that's where the similarities end. Instead of a screw holding the body to a stamped metal chassis, there are four tabs on the plastic chassis holding it to the body. You can see the tabs in each of the four corners in the diagram. Pull outward on one of the body's "bumpers" slightly to disengage the tabs and separate the chassis from the body. (Everything is fairly robust, so I wouldn't be too concerned about breaking anything.)

I hope this helps.

Hello PaperTRW!

I have the Snoopy & Woodstock Handcar and it appears that we overworked it and stripped the drive axle gear.

I think I found the gear part on the Lionel website but as I look at the handcar in more detail (after removing the top bed), there does not appear to be an easy way to disassemble in order to replace the gear? Any suggestions?  Looks like everything is riveted?

Thank you!
