of special note... due to merely leaving the track, ground-based windup locomotives will often keep going until meeting a wall or table leg, and this operational feature can usually be seen in a fairly beat-up pilot.  the condition of this model leads me to believe it was one of the few Marx sets that were either handled exceptionally well or more likely, saw little use in its first life.

the entire set held another few surprises...

inflation calculators say this set should sell for ~$30 in 2016 dollars.
don't know if i believe that.

It is easy to see why this would be one of your favorite Marx trains . It is amazing that today we are still finding these special little gems that have remained hidden so well until the right time when someone like your self  comes along to cherish and care for it as well as the original owner did. I wonder so many times when finding a treasure like this what was the occasion for this special gift a birthday , maybe Christmas , or just something for a good boy ? What it must have meant to him. And what happened to the boy him self ?   Its hard to say . It must have been a happy day after all in those days  $1.79 was still a sacrifice for the average person.

On another note ,I would be willing to double the advertised catalog price plus shipping if you would sell me yours. As I have not been as good of a boy to receive my own yet.

Thanks for sharing another great set from your collection with us.

OK here is your Santa FE #21's Just got these Marx trains 2 weeks ago. I got these on the cheap, plus a #31875 set with box. The set is complete with cars but the auto carrier's car load is missing, track, trans, lock-on and wires were still with set. these all work, I'm running them right now on my fast track loop. I do need some help finding a side frame and axles for the #21 dummy , as you can see it is broken and the axles  were bent. Looks like it was stepped on or floor toyed to hard, the power unit works great, as dose the #666, wish it had smoke.

Steve, it is on the dummy unit and its the rear truck but would be backed up to powered unit. Here are some close ups. Oh yeah wheels are ok but a pair of axles mite help too, as at least one is bent.

I have a complete assembly, wheels, side frames and coupler ready to install if you want it. $12.00 includes shipping. Just needs a bit of cleaning the dust off.

Yes Sir ! I could use that. I'm pressed for cash at the time. I have to take my car in for repair tomorrow. You can e-mail me at( LeeRoss816@yahoo) and leave me info and I will get back to you asap.  You can leave pics there and all the info. I will get the money on the way. Yeah there talking $400 to put a front seal in the transmission. I sure want that if you don't sell it. Or if you no where I can get just the side and axles that would be fine too, if some one else needs that one. Its not a big thing that I can't live with out.
