Ok, the wheel configuration is really a Southern Pacific Class AM-2, but a different rear truck will make it a Challenger. Gary Anderson's newest creation. Making good use of a couple of 333's. Superb workmanship as always and runs sweet. Already have one of Gary's Cab Forwards with a SP tender so this one will get a big UP tender.

Nice looking, but I have seen others done, too, probably not as nice looking as that. I have an 1829 done as a Mikado that also runs much better than I hoped. I hope to build a 2-4-4-2 with a couple of #999 chasses, maybe with new boiler, on my long time to-do list, since they refuse to do a commercial one. Going to fabricate a tender?
Is it fair to guess that that beast will be pulling a string of 3/16" PFE boxcars soon? Will the 4 wheel rear truck from an 1829 fit under the cab?

I only have one each of the Marx 3/16 cars, except the PFE Reefer. We'll see how many it will pull when I get the layout running again.

This is single motored. The front has a lot of swing to allow running on 031 curves, so there was no place for a motor. Gary has done some twin motored customs and he uses a single Marx reverse unit for them.

Here is a family photo. Gary tracks his by number. The cab forward in the back is no 10, the one in the middle with 2 stacks is no 16 and the one in the front is no 17.

The cab forward reminds me of a McKeen car....
With the title, I was expecting a Triplex, however, they are all most impressive, and you can see the #333 heritage in the boiler fronts (can't see the cab forward's). Louis Marx would be proud, and all look like "fun with trains".

Here are the three Gary Anderson customs running. Had a hard time keeping them in sync. The cab forward reverse unit is more sensitive and like changing direction on me.
