Amen to that. My son was supposed to be in Bahrain right now but plans got changed. I feel real blessed to have him home this Christmas.
You are Joe, and both you and I are grateful for it.
In the Vietnam era when I served, I got leave my first Christmas. Iwas able to get a ride to the Atlanta airport from Savannah. Because of all the military installations that airport served, it was a sea of green with Marines to boot. We were all flying standby, couldn't get out, stayed overnight, all flights booked, was lucky to get out around 5 AM. I had come to think that my Christmas leave was going to be spent in the airport.
My second year overseas, I had this 1970 Lionel catalog unfolded pinned to the wall, over my bed in the hooch.
It was the closest I could get to home.
I ended up on one of those radio broadcasts saying, "Hi" to those back home. I couldn't believe how many of my friends got up very early Christmas morning to hear my voice. I was very humbled by that.
Merry Christmas to all our military personal, we do care. For those of you overseas, a special wish for you and yours.
The point of my story above is to say that time goes on and whatever the sacrifice, you will get through.
