The Notch 6 Podcast Episode 37. Night four at the LCCA National convention. Al Kolis talks about a very special day for the LCCA as two children from the Make a Wish Foundation stopped by the Lionel layouts this morning for the opportunity to run the trains. We recap the days events and we get serious talking about the opportunities to give back using toy trains. The special guest tonight is Mike Reagan head of production for Lionel Trains. He brings us an update on the Vision Line Big Boy, aluminum passenger cars and other Lionel products. Plus we discuss some of the new processes and challenges that face Lionel as they work to make the trains we love.

Sometimes we're very intentional about being vague. Lionel has really gone above and beyond to make their staff available to me for the show. I really respect that, and try not to push too hard for information that I know we can't share yet. If you look closely Lionel has gotten very good at plugging it's "leaks" in the past 18 months. Most of the new catalog items now remain hidden until only days if not hours before the catalogs go up. Lionel wishes to keep it this way and I try and do all I can to respect that.

I fully understand Derek. Some of Mikes answers were vague for obvious reasons.

It still sheds a decent light on the fact when "we're" complaining ( myself included) wondering where our trains are, they're getting made, and in some cases "re-made", and that doesn't happen overnight.

Your podcasts give our narrow hobby, a bit more  of a mainstream feel.

That's one of the big points that we're trying to get across, especially when Mike is on. It takes so much work to bring these items to market and there are so many things that are out of Lionel's control going on behind the scenes. I wish I could go in and film what it takes to bring a project to life from start to finish. I really think it would blow some folks mind.

I'm really glad you guys are enjoying the show. The whole goal is to get good information to you guys in a timely manner and have some fun in the process!

Hmmm... I sense a short little documentary here covering the creation of a Lionel product from beginning (aka; request on OGR forum to LHS shelf).  To be aired as a segment of (or entire show) on "I Love Toy Trains" on RFD-TV.

... a person can dream right ...

I enjoyed the pod-cast and hate to admit it but it was the first.

   Keep up the good work!
