Every time I see a No. 6 4-4-0 - either original or MTH repro - I have this strong urge to buy it.  So far I have managed to resist.  I try to limit myself to O gauge clockworks for the sake of my wallet and my sanity.  However, the post by JR Junction showing the No. 6 in the Empire State Express paint scheme just about pushed me over the edge... 

The only cure is to bring home a friend so it's not lonely.

Yep, that tinplate urge has been around since my first train set, a Hornby clockwork. I guess it grew.

The 390 came with a 213 stock car and 217 caboose, and a pile of rusty track.

The bait was an 082 semaphore. I picked it up and said, "What's this thing?"

The engine is missing the trailing truck. It will look better with it.

Your cars are 200 series. They will work fine with this engine although 500 series cars would be the appropriate freight cars. There is a rare version of the tender that has 200 series trucks on the tender to match 200 series cars. Your engine has 500 series trucks.

There may not be a cure, but you can mitigate the situation with ever-increasing doses of Std. Gauge.

The only cure I know of is to join the Standard Gauge Module Association (SGMA), build some SGMA modules, and then have a blast running your Standard Gauge trains at train shows on a SGMA layout with a bunch of other crazy Standard Gauge enthusiasts!

Congratulations! Welcome to the terminal side of tinplate. All you can do is reach back and grab hold of a hand full on each side. Then repeat this simple phrase: "Ok Baby, I'm ready for that "Wild Ride" now" .

Count me in.  Here is some new, old school iron I scored this week. The 384E is the smoothest running engine I have ever seen.  The 385E is just as smooth a runner, but more of a pounder and has been designated to full time freight duty pulling six 500s.  It has a working chugger, really cool whistle and E unit switch.  All original and looks great.  Pulls like a champ.  The 384 is a first year edition, no green stripe, which I like.  She is a honey.  I adore both engines and am glad to have them. 

Once you get hooked on this hobby it becomes an obsession but a fun one at that. Where else could you see grown men spending hundreds of dollars for toys or worrying if an accessory piece comes with the original man!

Yeah. I have my eye on a 384e. I have no SG, no track, nothing. But I want it for under the tree. I talk myself into it, out of it, into it, out of it. I think I was out, but reading this thread, might have reeled me back in........................... or not.................or maybe................

High steppin 384E pulling Red and cream 337, 338.  This is my poor man's Macy's Special.  Love the 337 cars with the big windows.  Let there be light.  Great engine.  Just a honey.  I think this engine and these cars were in a set sold by Macy's.  The stamping over the windows of the cars would say Macy's Special instead of The Lionel Lines like these.  Perfect combo.  The engine, although the wheel size is the same on all these engines, just seems to have that high steppin, fast passenger feel to it.  Like a classic Atlantic style engine.  Most likely due to the absence of the other trailing wheels.  Cool engine.  I fell in love the first time I spun the wheel on my Cab1 and saw I smooth she runs.  As always, Cheers!

What makes a 390x tender is the 200 series trucks instead of the 500 series. This tender is very rare. I have never seen one in person but would imagine the 500 series trucks look better.
