I was just wondering, could a smoking Lionel 2037 motor (and the like) fit into a Lionel 1668 Torpedo shell? I think it would make a pretty cool custom conversation piece.

I don't know about fitting a 2037 motor in it, but someone here took a MPC smoke unit and made it fit inside the 1668. I'll see if I can find a link to the smoke unit.
I believe it was this one. http://ttender.com/partphotos/index.html
If you can fit an MPC smoke unit into it, you can probably fit one of the small fan driven smoke units, you'll get lots more smoke.

I can't seen to find it on that sight, what category is it under?

Yeah, I could do that but it wouldn't seem "right". It would be to modern of a smoke plume. I want it to puff like a postwar engine instead of blow like a modern engine.
All my steamer fan driven smoke units puff smoke, I don't do continuous smoke.
I just had a great idea, I wonder if an American Flyer chuffing smoke unit could be made to work in the Torpedo?
