Good morning everyone and Merry Christmas,

I was going thru some pictures and I came across a photo of my fathers layout under our christmas tree when I was about 5 years old so we are talking 1967.

Trying to scan the photo and attach it to this post in not an option so I am going to describe this layout platform.

He had a prefab styrofoam layout sat on the floor and was approximately 5' x 5' square and was for HO track.

He had and still has Lionel HO Set that had a Santa Fe Diesel ABA set for power but was replaced with a steam engine due to a driveline failure.

This 5' x 5' square had the HO track already attached to the base and had I think two rerailers to help with any derailments.

It had a power track where the wires from the transformer connected to power up the track.

The platform had a tunnel and the train would go in the tunnel back out and then gradually climb up over the tunnel and back down.

In the center was painted green with fake grass and some brown markings I guess for roads.

The tunnel portals where painted and cut rocks were molded around the tunnel portals.

The christmas tree sat right on top of this 5' x 5' square.

Do any of you forum members remember anything like this?

I have never seen another platform like this at a train show or shop or and antique shop.

Merry Christmas, The Strittmatters

Good afternoon t6366 and D&H 65 thanks for the replies.

dt6366 the picture you attached looks like the platform and the bicycle in the back ground looks great also.

I completely forgot about this until I came across the picture.

I remembered my Dad had it tied up to the floor joyces in our basement when it was not being used at christmas time and I am not sure how or why it fall down and hit my sister. "You would swear it was the end of the world the way she carried on"

Thanks for the replies, and Merry Christmas

When I got married, our first apartment didn't have room for a layout – but this Life Like "Electric Railroad system" fit under the bed nicely. I have the two extended panels, to make it a 4x6.

I don't remember a tunnel on these, although there may have been another version.

I modified mine to include some sidings into the center section (where a Christmas tree might go).

Lots of railroading fun on the cheap!
