Hi all!
Caution - reading this MAY cause appendicitis! Curious?? - read on!
I had appendicitis in June, my wife had it in January, and my son Nicholas, aka "Hebanator", had it last week ! The recovery time has caused me to attempt/undergo some repair/upgrade work on my big steam. I am in the process of installing a Henning's Super-Chuffer in my Lionel Big Boy (6-28029) and thought I would post an "in-progress" video along with some pictures of the temporary wiring.
Many, many thanks to GunRunnerJohn for his infinite expertise and help! He even convinced me to get the Hennings' Programmable Chuff-Generator for the 2/4 chuffs per revolution. I am anxiously waiting for that to arrive. Got to get it installed before I go back to school on Monday.
The smoke unit mounts in the boiler. I am still pondering where to mount the S-C. Perhaps I will fashion a bracket and attach it to the inside of the shell by the smoke unit. Any suggestions on mounting the S-C would be greatly appreciated.
To be clear, I am very much a novice at train repair/upgrade, but I am willing to give it a go. I have gotten much better at the smoke unit repair work and upgrades. I've learned a lot just by looking at the engines and following the wires to see where they go. This is my first attempt at a S-C upgrade. I know that there are many on the forum who, like me, have a fear of opening up an expensive engine and tinkering around with the advanced electronics. I am here to tell you, it can be done and there is a tremendous amount of satisfaction when the job is complete. There is a vast amount of human resources on this forum who seem to be infinitely patient with those of us who are still learning. Do not be afraid to try something on your own!
More to come!
