I've been running trains this week....

I've really been having a lot of fun running a long, slow freight on my large, normally "passenger only" loop. Pennsy locos have been doing the work.

Early in the week, the new, hardly run MTH Railking Scale PRR "Liberty Limited" F unit. That is the Chessie Steam Special chugging by in the background!rgfdc

Now, the new Williams GG1 is running. unnamed

This corner will not look like this for much longer. FedEx is supposed to drop off my new Menard's Morton Salt Factory tomorrow. dewf

A Lionel Postwar 6257 and a handful of Postwar cars wait patiently on a siding. In the background is the "triple crossing". There is track on the table top, the trolley line and then a siding where you can see some cars stored high above the rest of the layout. As always, I look forward to adding to my small but always growing Postwar collection at York in a few weeks.

Happy Friday :)

Didn't do much this week. Added some little details around the layout. Picked up a Vision Line sound reefer & one of Lionel's freight sound boxcars.
I did finish up the corner where the water tower is. I have 1 little patch of uncovered board left :) I plan on making another fence this weekend for the other side of the factory. I'm also working on creating a few sound files for the layout. Lorenzo thought it would be cool to have some farm sounds near the farm, so that got me thinking. Using my protools audio software, I've been creating sound loops of various lengths. Once I have a few created - farm, city traffic, birds, other sounds, I plan on putting them onto a spare iPod I have. I bought a pair of bluetooth computer speakers & will mount them in the tunnel, just behind the portals.

Went to Roanoke last Saturday for some railfanning. Haven't gone through all the pics yet, but here's a few. These were shot w/ my 20mm prime lens

Unhappily need to temporally pack and store these two Malcolm masterpieces.

For the uninitiated Malcolm ships these packed to the hilt.  Each cab is wrapped in layers then placed in respective sized storage contains ( in these cases 6qt Sterilite.   There is no way to replicate this for easy packing and unpacking.  So determined that there was rome enough for both cabs in one contain if properly done.  Cut a trapezoidal piece of hobby wood to divide the space longitudinally  in half.  Added a spacer on the top edge to prevent the lip from being able to press/crush down on cab and particularly the smoke jacks.  Using spray adhesive covered both sides with a thin piece of smooth high density foam had laying around.  Also cut a piece of this foam for the bottom.  Then rolled and cut bubble wrap for end and lateral padding.

Now have a safe and convenient easy storage solution.

Oh, since these containers are stackable slipped this one down into the other one adding to strength.  Will glue tops together for strength also when think of a suitable glue that will allow separation.

Happy Friday guys!

Great Job on the Downtown Deco Barber shop Jeff.

I have enjoyed building them all but I did not know they made the barber shop...

Thanks.  You did great work as well. I did the Atlantic hotel and Paterson's as well. Funny, our Atlantic hotels look pretty similar.

The barber shop was one of Randy's early kits. It popped up on eBay a while back as buy it now.  I have never seen another since

A favorite scene on my layout. The different Mail Pouch barns were usually seen in the Ohio Valley, but there was one on Southern Pacific’s Coast Line. It was near San Luis Obispo. A second California Mail Pouch barn near Merced in the San Joaquin Valley was restored in 2014. This dairy barn alongside busy Highway 99 was originally painted in 1940 and was seen by both motorists and train passengers. After restoration, a solar company provided panels so that it can be enjoyed by roughly one and a half million passersby each month night and day.

I got this via ebay. It arrived damage, the seller made it right but I want to try and fix it. Can I get just a cupola?? Didn't know if MTH would have a part like this or willing to sell one. Anyone with experience like this?? Thanks

Hello AMCDave

I have the whole Railking U.P. body just like that one with out ends and missing one roof walk platform and you can take one off the broken one.   I no longer use it and its in much better condition than the one shown here, interested ?   Perhaps a trade maybe ?   I am still working on the early Williams Hudson and its coming out well and will post more pictures soon.

Hello AMCDave

Would you have a MTH Premier flat car body perfect paint nothing broken off  for my 2-20 foot trailers -OR- a better driveshaft coupling between motor and gearbox for the Williams Dreyfuss Hudson I been working on -OR- 2 metal casting "air pumps"  so I can add those to the Hudson like what you did for your Hudson ? -OR- a pair of roller pick up assemblies like the ones use on the early Williams Hudson.    I checked to be sure and found out that the body I have has both platform walks on the roof (one is red and other is yellow and I believe I glue it on from the inside).  The body roof is yellow but is the same type caboose as yours is.  There is foil INSIDE the body's roof to make it brighter from the lights but outside the body and paint and steps are perfect and I bought this caboose in 2010 for the semi-scale Railking U.P. Challenger and sold the engine at the later date.
