Thank you Rich Melvin for answering my questions regarding the specifics of the coal that you burn in the locomotive.

Unfortunately I see that the original thread got pulled ( I can only surmise that it must have turned ugly).

If I remember correctly ( since it has been many hours since I read it) you said that the calorific value of the coal must be 12,500 btu/lb or better, ash content < 6%  and appropriately sized for the stoker.  You also mentioned another property to prevent the formation of clinker, but I cannot remember that one.

Could you please reiterate.

Thank you again for being so accessible, and willing to share your knowledge with the rest of us. I have learned a great deal from you and others in the steam fraternity who post on this and other forums on the web.
