The bane of my existence in this hobby has been losing small parts while doing a repair or modification. It seems like when they roll off the work surface and hit the floor, the Earth literally sucks them up never to be found again. I finally solved the problem by buying a magnetic parts tray on the 'Bay. But it's magnet was small and I wasn't impressed with it. During Thanksgiving week, the items for sale on Black Friday were put out at all the Home Depots. One of them was a set of trays.....2 round and one rectangular. Terrific!. Just what I wanted and for a great price.....$9.95. Well, I just noticed that they reduced the price still further......a ridiculous $5.  Here is the link...

You can either get them at the store or order it online. Phenomenal deal on a GREAT product.  Grab a set......you will be pleased.

These are handy. I got a couple round ones from Harbor Freight a few years ago. I think I like the rectangular one from Home Depot, may have to give that a try, can't beat it for $5.

I also like their 'Husky' 7", 9", 11" & 14" parts organizers. Last year they had the 9" (I think it was) on sale, a pkg of 3 for around $5. I am well stocked on those. They are also really nice.

Here's a link to the 9 in. Parts Bin Organizer

Magnetic parts trays are great but I also use another anti-loss technique when doing repair work on trains and my collectible cars that involves small parts.  When removing a screw or clip I place a small magnetic pick up tool on the screw right near the screwdriver head. The screw comes out and is picked up by the magnet. Then take it off of the magnet and put it in the magnetic pan and no loss will occur. .

Nice but this stinks! not available for Mail order. Closest store right now is King OF Prussia, PA. NOT worth it for me.

Hmmm...I didn't notice that when I looked earlier. When checking again just now, it also told me they are not available at any store within 100 miles of my zip code. Guess I won't be trying them right away, but I'll keep an eye out for them on each visit.
