the 2.5" and 3.75" scales are massive machines, even of the small prototypes. i just picked up a 1" scale Pacific. big enough to ride on, but small enough (engine and tender combined, less than 500 lbs) to transport. while 7.5" gauge is sill the most popular, 4.75" gauge is making a slight comeback in California.
It is a lot of fun, but wears me out after a full day. A lot to keep track of when running one of these. Two man job being done by one. The day goes by fast! John
Holly cow! We lost a premier layout enthusiast in our G gauge forums. He's drifting over to 1". I fear the G scale layout's life is counting down.

Joe it's fun to look at the live steam but I think the outdoor trains in cold country is a NON STARTER for me. I like being able to run trains "in comfort" and not in COLD WEATHER.
Your G scale are indoors(maybe you are building an outdoor layout) and that's ok. I am satisfied with the "O" and have too much of it to move in another direction.

Absolutely the most gorgeous model trains I have ever seen! Loved the West Side Lumber 3 truck Shay, the various Colorado & Southern and Rio Grande locomotives, the right of way, the trestles, and, particularly, C&S #70 pulling an authentic stock train. What I don't get is how come EVERYONE, everywhere, doesn't love trains !!!
Bill, I had hoped you were solid into O gauge. I was afraid you'd get the bug when you saw those ride ons. There's a video of a guy who runs 3 BNSF GE's. Some guys say it sounds like three lawn mowers going by. I say it just cool and someday......

Joe, I am in "O" to stay. The only question is will I give in and start to buy someone else's engines in place of MTH. MTH has let me down in the last few catalogs and in the Premier line has noffered me ANYTHING in the CN or GTW.....sooi WILL BE THINKIMG ABOUT MOVING AWAY FROM MTH BUT STAYING IN "O".

Well... G gauge was stale for me for a while. I think that's what brought me to O gauge was all the choices.

Joe that CN 15th Annv unit is cool. I think I posted pictures for you of the 2 actual CN engines back a few months ago. Now that is a good Idea for MTH to produce it since the have the Dash 9 molds. MTH ARE YOU LISTENING?????????????????
