I have many MTH engines and never had a problem adding any of them to my dcs.
I recently bought a used premier E8. Still no problem adding it! However when I power down and power by up the engine is still in the hand held but won’t start unless I go to add engine again and the it powers up.
never had this happen before.any suggestions?

Battery is dead and it is not storing info in the engine. So replace battery. G

Get BCR
Where is a good source for a reasonable BCR? Most of you must buy them.
If you are handy with a soldering iron, you can make one your self for not a lot of money. Search the Forum, there are plenty of threads on the parts needed and the how to.
Otherwise, give J&W Electronics a visit. They sell prepackaged BCR's in both 9 volt & 2.4 volt styles.

Ok got my new Bcr and replaced the speaker. Tested out and running like a champ! Sounds are back to normal and being stored properly!!

You can also make your own.
For 3V engines I just use the wires that are on the old battery and solder them to a 1.5F supercap.
For 5V engines (9V battery), I make them with two 5V supercaps and a Keystone #68 battery clip.

Mickey, I just posted about a bad speaker on a circa 2008 Chessie steam special, that has low sound and a speaker magnet that is turning to powder. About what year was your bad spkr (and was it powdering) and can you cite the source you used for your replacement? Thanks, Happy New Year. Greg

My speaker was powdering also. I buy a lot from Patrick’s Trains in Wheeling West Virginia. He is awesome to deal with so I kind of respected that and like to give him my business!
He did however try to lead me to buying thru MTH but after talking with him he let me speak with his technician and ordered the speaker and some other things from him.
When I replaced it I cut the wires as close to speaker as possible. Had to be real careful stripping the wires! They are so small! Made sure positive to positive and negative to negative and then soldered them. Put it on the track and everything ended up perfect!
