I have an additional question regarding the repair of a Lionel 128 Newsstand.  When reattaching the Drive Line from the eyelet to the Drive Line Spring how may times must the Drive Line be wound around the Pulley in order for the stand to operate properly?  Does it just have to be slipped around the pulley before attaching it the eyelet or should it be wound around the pulley at least one time?  Thanks in advance for any advice which can be provided.

I got out my service manual so I could understand BMORAN4's comment about the string.
The drawings certainly do make it look like the string only goes half way around. But there are some other points to consider:

The manual gives the string length as 11 inches, plus another 1-1/4 inch for the spring. Is that long enough to go around 1-1/2 times? Or would there be an excessive amount left over with the string only going 1/2 way around?

The manual refers readers to ACC-464 for details on how the string motor works.
I did not see where the text in section ACC_464 said how many times to wrap the string around the pulley, but the drawing does specify 1-1/2 turns.

The manual sections for 264 fork lift and 334 dispatching station both say 1-1/2 turns.

Finally, the service manual does have the occasional error or ambiguity.

Thanks everyone for all of your replies to my request.  I have the braided string on order from The Train Tender along with a couple of new eyelets if I need one.  I will be going with 1 1/2 turns around the pulley at the outset to see how that works.  One thing about the original eyelet I certainly can't find a hole to thread the line through.  Guess I'll have to wing it.

I have to take back my initial statements - Turns out my dad mangled the 128 I have on my layout because he didn't know better and was going by the misleading picture in the service documents before I even existed... I prodded him after uncovering another 128 in my stash which indeed had a longer drive line wrapped around the whole pulley.

Just to follow through on my original post requesting help on my added 128 Newsstand repair I have successfully replaced the string around the pulley and wound it around 1 1/2 times and it works perfectly.  I had some trouble with the eyelet because apparently the end of the eyelet had already been crimped several times and try as I might I could not pry it open to insert the string.  Rather than try to install a new one  I snipped off the end of the eyelet with a pair of thin metal shears to the point where the eyelet opened up somewhat and inserted the string into the wider opening.   I then crimped it shut and so far so good.  Thanks everyone for all of your help and advice.
