The legacy electronics are programmed for operating the electro-couplers, and with a legacy command control they operate fine.  According to the manual that came with the locomotive all of the features are available with DCC, but the manual doesn't list what F keys to use.  Even if an F key wasn't assigned to fire the electro-couplers it would be easy to assign an F key to operate them if I had more info.  My biggest problem right now seems to be I can't access the full manual or any manuals for that matter at lionel.com.  Currently if I go to the "support" page at lionel.com it's a parts for sale page.  I'm not having the best of luck here.

Regards,

Joe

If an S gauge Legacy engine is operated with a DCC system two Legacy features are unavailable. First, the Smoke is only OFF-ON. The Low, Medium, High feature is not available. Second, the Lionel electrocouplers cannot be fired.

If running a Y3 on with whistle steam on DCC the Smoke ON-OFF also controls the whistle steam.

I agree Tom. I don't see anywhere in the manuals where it says you can operate all functions with DCC, and if DCC could fire electrocouplers, there would be no reason not to list the F key in the "The DCC Mode Operating Features" section where it lists what F0 through F12 do.  Again, I am pretty sure (nearly certain) Legacy boards are not programmed for this.

Joe,

Manuals are considered "parts".

You can find them by entering the product number for your locomotive into the search box, clicking on the matching entry in drop-down list that appears, and navigating through the items list that appears after clicking on your matching entry.

Manuals are always found near the bottom of that list.

Be careful as you click.  If you go too far you'll end up on an actual parts list page.  It shows manuals too, but for purchase and delivery in physical form (paper).  If you want to download instead make sure you're on the items page, i.e. the page previous to the actual parts list.

Warning:. The site has been a work in progress for the last year.  Some things have not yet been loaded.  A few more get added each week.  As a result using it requires extreme patience at times.  If they're not there now you'll have to wait.

There is one more trick when searching the Lionel Support site for S gauge engine parts. If the site does not show all the parts or manuals for the engine you have, then go to the Lionel Catalog that contains the engine. If the engine is cataloged in, for example, six different road names, many times the Support Site will only show all the parts and manuals for one of the engines. Its like looking for Easter eggs.

Tom, does that mean there is actually a parts page for the Legacy Berkshire? I've been unable to find one for like forever.
