While reading through the latest NMRA magazine I noticed the Gapmaster ties. I had been using individual PCB ties (such as those from Fast Tracks) over gaps in modules for years I was unaware of another option. Seems whether you're hand laying track, or using flex track there might be options available if you're needing reliable methods to maintain gauge over gaps, such as those between two modules.
